flight 007 ☄ [video; backdated to July 23 a.k.a. before people go time traveling to the past]

[This is Kay Faraday.

This is Kay Faraday moving the focus of the video away from her and toward the couch, where Miles Edgeworth is fast asleep and drooling on his pillow. She giggles quietly at the sight before approaching him slowly, the view zooming in toward him. Then she whispers:]

Hey, Mr. Edgeworth, it’s waaaay past lunchtime!

[She gets no response out of that. But right now no one can see her facial expression because her device is still pointed toward Edgeworth.]

Mr. Edgeworth, the fridge is empty!

[And this is Edgeworth, rolling over on his side, mumbling something about “groceries” and “later”. His eyes are still closed, and he dozes off immediately.

There is a pause as Kay considers her next move. Then, without warning, because she’s still off-screen, she proclaims in a louder, more mischievous voice:]

Mr. Edgeworth, smile for the camera!

[Edgeworth blinks, staring blearily at Kay and the camera. Kay… camera…? Cam...er…]

Augh! KAY!

[And he bolts up immediately, lunging for the device. Kay hurriedly steps backward with a yelp, and the video ends there.]

[Judging from that tone of voice, Ruka isn't amused.]

C'mon, what's a prank between friends? It's not like I do it everyday...

[dragony]

[ She's never amused... but that is probably not a good judge of anything tbh. ]

Between you, him, and the two hundred-something imPorts you shared it with? I'm sure there's no one but 'friends' here.

[yatagarasu]

[Kay, what is this, a performance? Is the network your stage?]

[dragony]

The finale, where he fires you for breach of trust?

[yatagarasu]

What? Of course not, Mr. Edgeworth still has a heart under his ruffles!

[dragony]

I can't say that's much of a guarantee for employment, if you're counting only on pity while pulling stunts like that.

[ She's not... trying to be mean... ]

He's young, but he's not your underclassman.

[yatagarasu]

I know, I know. [That won't stop her from pulling another stunt like this in the future.] And I'm actually not paid for this. [She shrugs.]

[dragony]

Well, I should hope you're not paid for acts of public humiliation, but I suppose it's funnier to not care about other people's feelings.

[ s h r u g. ]

You'll do some real damage one of these days, acting like that. Though I'm not sure why I'm bothering; it's really no concern of mine. Do what you like.

[yatagarasu]

I do care about his feelings!

...I'm making it up to him by getting him lunch. Besides, it's not like I do this everyday.

[dragony]

Do you?

Because you do a poor job acting like it.

[yatagarasu]

I do! I really do.

...It was just a joke. [She huffs.]

[dragony]

Then you've got a poor sense of humor and judgment.

[yatagarasu]

[Way to take the fun out of this, Ruka...]

Well, other people thought it was funny... [Or at least didn't RUIN HER FUN!!!]

[dragony]

Yeah, people that don't like that guy thought it was funny. Or did you miss all the insults in your revelry?

[ PROFESSIONAL FUN-RUINER. ]

[yatagarasu]

We have to learn how to make fun of ourselves sometimes and lighten up. [She pouts, glancing away briefly.] Some people need to remember that.

[dragony]

You keep saying stuff like that, but the fact remains that you're still humiliating an obviously introverted guy with a professional reputation, in front of hundreds of people—potential colleagues and potential enemies alike. Like, I mean, you know a ton of people with access to this network are murderers and worse, right? Is that really the kind of audience you want to the "Lightening Up" of that person?

[ NO FUN ALLOWED, EVER. But a pretty weird candidate to the Miles Edgeworth Defense Squad... ]

Either leave the grade-school pranks to actual children next time, or don't make the rest of us spectators to your attempts to embarrass the guy.

[yatagarasu]

[Well, that does make Kay fall silent for a moment. Wow, okay, honestly, she didn't think of that. She twiddles her thumbs for a moment, just like she used to as a child.

Quietly:]

...why would murderers even care, anyway?

[Kay wants to say that everyone else was cool with being spectators, but she's pretty sure that'll just make Ruka more annoyed.]

[dragony]

[ In that brief moment, it sounds like she's actually gotten through to Kay, and Ruka's voice softens in turn.

Not gentle, or coddling, but the venom is gone. ]

You'd be surprised by the sorts of things they fixate on.

[yatagarasu]

I guess.

[That, at least, gets to her.]

I remember this one murderer really enjoying leading us on and fooling us - and she even gave us a hint to lead us to the mastermind of a smuggling ring.

[dragony]

It sounds like it may have been something like a game to her.

[yatagarasu]

You said it. [A beat, and a sigh.] I...I never really thought about this, didn't I? [NOW she remembers that the network can be dangerous.]

...I'll try to make it up to Mr. Edgeworth.

[dragony]

I'm certain he'll appreciate it.

[ ruka don't act so confident you haven't even spoken to this version of the guy. ]

[yatagarasu]

[It went better than expected off-screen.

Not.]

Thanks. I started out with making a pretty good lunch.
