Have any of you realized you would rather go to a friend's world than back to your own?

[ and now more upbeat-- ]

Winry-chan! I came up with some new part designs that I need help getting components for! And I need to talk to you about Benji-kun's prosthetic upgrades when you have time too, ne? He's almost outgrown the ones I made for him!

...Ah, and also! Um... Are there any shapeshifters here? Ones that can shift into multiple forms - not just one?

[ because he's kind of... stuck... ... ]

...Finally, Jiji! I need your help with something ASAP! ...Please?

[ huff huffs his way to his door and - thankfully he is just wearing a ~~super cute~~ pair of socks - opens it with a foot. AUDIBLE SOUND OF DOOR OPENING. ]

I'll time you. [and he gives a pointed glance to his watch before settling in to his chair to finish some paperwork. knowing Akito, he'll be here in three.]

[ akito enters callaghan's office like a miniature hurricane... all clumsy and limbs flailing with bits of down fluttering behind him. ]

Two minutes fifty-five seconds!

[a glance at the watch, and there goes the second hand. Callaghan nods and lowers his wrist, gesturing towards the door] Close it behind you and we'll start on this.

[ he closes it easily, with surprising dexterity for someone using their feet. ]

I kind of wish we could visit? Like, I want to go home. I miss my mom and my friends and if I had the chance I'd go right now?

But I'd also miss a whole bunch of people. It'd suck to have to say goodbye and never see them again.

Visit? [ he considers it. ] Un... That would be nice. But if it was either one or the other, I think I would go with my friend.

Good-byes are hard, but as long as you keep them close to your heart your loved ones are never really gone.

My mom needs me.

[ It's as simple as that for Clary, her mom needs her to come back and save her. ]

So you're close to people here?

That's a good reason to go home.

[ for him, as much as he loves his friends from home, it also didn't take long after some of them arrived for him to realize that he's changed - grown apart from them, though he still holds them as close in his heart as ever. ]

Un! I've made friends here. And I've learned about the world he's from and it sounds like a good fit! I want to go there... I'll miss my home, but I would regret not going to his world if I had the chance even more.

What kind of world is it?

[ Clary would be super tempted if the world had like, unicorns or something. ]

Just a normal Earth! Like this one, except more advanced - technologically, in certain ways, and aesthetically. The people I know from there are from the 2030's, and it sounds like a nice world... A good place to go to school and learn! Maybe even do something to make a difference, ne?

2030? God, that's ages away. Have you researched it? Do they have hovercars there too? Or robots? Robot butlers.

[ A hum. ] I've always wanted a robot butler.

I don't need to research it - I can just ask my friend about anything and he'll answer!

But there are definitely robots! Not autonomous robots, but robots more advanced than any in my world.

So you're pretty excited, huh? Do you think we'll figure out how to use the Porter soon?

[ She doesn't know, they could know more about science than she does. ]

It would be fun! I would learn a lot more there than in my own world... [ UGH the porter... ] I don't think we'll figure it out very soon, but there's always a chance that we can build a different portal to use instead!

[ Clary knows a bit about Portals, but.

It's easy for her to switch to private. ]

I hope you have a better go of it than I did last time I tried. I almost drown.

[ wait - what? ]

...Was it a portal at home, or some weird portal-thing here?

And it's good that you didn't actually drown - that means you'll be able to go back to your mama, someday!

I was trying to get somewhere and kind of ... ended up in the lake instead. I thought I could do it. But it's not as easy as it looks.

The most worthwhile things are always the hardest, even if they look easy.

Yeah, maybe.

But I could try to help out, if you were aiming for a portal. [ She's just assuming. ] I promise not to drown this time.

Is that an ability of yours? Portals?

It's something I need to talk to Prof. Jiji about, since he has more experience than me... I've been working on some equations and theories on interdimensional physics that he's been helping me with. There's definitely still a long way to go, but it's still a step forward!

I'd be happy to help you with prosthetics for Benji!

[Hear the pleasure in her voice.]

Thank you! Once he's full grown I want to make some that will give him some feeling back.

That's very ambitious!

[Winry would like to create that for her automail but she hasn't figured out how yet without a lot more nerve surgery than already happens.]

It shouldn't be too hard! Just a matter of making the right sort of sensors and putting them in the right places...

But how would that transmit to Benji? Without a nerve surgery, I mean.

[And that's why Den's leg was a simple prosthetic - nerve surgery on animals was too much to consider.]

I can convert his collar to a receiver that could send the information back to his brain using specific frequencies... Or something like that. I haven't been thinking too much about the specifics of it yet, since it's still a while until he's full grown.

That sounds amazing, Akito!

I-It's only amazing if I can do it! But there defintiely has to be a way to send signals like that non-invasively through a body.

You have to show me!

I will! If I can figure it out I want to teach as many people as I can about it, since it would be nice if even more animals in need could get prosthetics like that.

And people, too.

Un! People focus on human prosthetics more than animal prosthetics though, so I want to make sure animals are first! Because that way they won't get forgotten, ne?

I couldn't forget my dog. She has...my dog back home, I mean. She has a prosthetic leg.

[Winry remembers the heart-wrenching reason why Den's left front leg is metal. She'd pushed Ed out of the way of a train.]

That isn't the norm here, even though it should be... If I can find a cheap way to provide prosthetics to animals in need then they would have better chances of being adopted, too!
