[ The video starts with Marty holding the communicator really, really awkwardly. Behind him you can probably see a line of freestyle soda machines behind him. Marty has a dollar in his hand, but apparently something's not working for him. ]

Okay. So...ah, I'm Marty. I guess I'm new? I don't know if you gotta introduce yourselves or anything when you make a new one of these, but...

[ He gives the communicator a sheepish kind of shrug, unsure of whether he wants to feel stupid holding a camera like this, or feeling uncomfortable because people were looking at him weird. ] ...right. So I got a question. I guess.

So these touch vendor-things are everywhere, right? How the hell do you get your soda?

[ Marty turns the video to the machine, where he presses his finger against 'diet coke' on the main screen and then mashing it against the PUSH button. ] I press diet coke on the menu and it takes me to this thing where it shows me all kinda of flavors, but it won't give me my soda!

[ joke's on you marty, you have to select the big fat diet coke button before you can get your soda, duh. that's probably why people are looking at you weird.

Eventually he just lightly taps the toe of his shoe against the bottom of the machine. ]

This thing sucks. I don't even like coke.

[ Ellie is trying so hard to not laugh. She can't hide the tiny smile though. ] Have you really never seen anything like it or something?

I mean...not like this? The ones we have at home don't have a big screen on 'em. And we fill it up. Not the machine, or whatever.

This looks cool and all, but jesus. Is it all this complicated?

I can't even picture what that must look like. Where I'm from almost everything is automated, even how we get into our RIGS.

Most of it is this complicated, yeah. You get used to it though.

RIG? What's a RIG?

[ He looks over to the machine, and shakes his head. ] This is gonna suck. 'S like I'm gonna need a babysitter to make sure I can actually work stuff.

Is there stuff around here that doesn't work on its own?

Resource Integration Gear. It's basically gear we use when we're in space or on colonies.

[ She chuckles. ] You'll get used to it eventually and I'm sure there are tons of people willing to help. As far as I know though, no, most things here seem to be moving towards working on their own more so than not.

[heymcfly]

Space. So you're an astronaut. Do I got that right?

[ He'd hope those huge suits are automated, anyway. How do you even get into those? ]

I've gotten some help on here so far. I guess this'll just take some gettin' used to? Can't say we got stuff like this in 1985. [ Marty smiles, and shrugs a little sheepishly. ] I'll get it after a while.

Nope not at all. I was a pilot. I'm from the year 2514, a lot of people live off of Earth or on stations.

[ She smiles. ] You'll get it. It took me a bit to get used to going backwards in tech some. From what I remember reading about this stuff is a pretty big jump from 1985.

Wait. What year?

[ Marty's not sure he heard that right. ]

I swear you just said 205-somethin'. I heard wrong, right?

2514. It's about 500 years in the future compared to most people here. Further with some.

[heymcfly]

Right. Okay. [ Marty thought that being in 2016 was crazy. But knowing someone who came from 500 years farther into the future? That's a little nuts. And kind of hard for his brain to comprehend. ]

You should talk to my friend. You'd be pretty good pals I bet.

Oh? Whose your friend?

[heymcfly]

Uhh, Doc. He's around town I think. As a disco guy, I think?

Can't say I'm sure what a disco guy would be?

I mean...I guess...

[ How did you even explain what Doc did? ]

He's a DJ at a disco club, or somethin' like that. I guess after work he goes around dressed like a disco dancer or whatever. It's his dress code I guess.

That sounds like an....uh interesting job. I'll try to keep a lookout for someone like that.

[heymcfly]

Yeah, sure. I'm sure you can see him in the mornings...maybe. I don't know what time the club opens.

He's a real nice guy though.
