Alright, my birthday's in a few days! This one's a big one, too—I'm gonna be eighteen! Which means I'm either throwing a party at my place or I'm pulling out all the stops and doing something huge someplace else!

[Sounds exciting, right? But hold onto your hats, there's a catch.]

Problem is...I don't got any ideas!

[There we go, that sounds about right. Josuke, you slacker, you're supposed to plan this shit ahead of time!]

This'll be the second birthday I've celebrated here, but...a lot's different from when I first arrived.

[The faces, it's the faces that are mostly different. A lot of people that Josuke knows have come and gone, and that makes this birthday one that will be largely different from the last. Which is kind of the reason he wants it to be special in the first place, something he can do while surrounded by all the friends he's made here, the family he's got left, and maybe even some new folks, too. The other part of course having everything to do with the fact he'll finally be a legal adult and that's pretty fucking awesome! Who doesn't wanna do something exciting for that?]

So I got to thinking, maybe while I'm asking around to see if people are even gonna be free, you guys could tell me a little about what you like to do for birthdays? And let me know if you wanna come along and all, too.

Ms. Hendrix has an event planning business. She did my last birthday, and it was really nice. If you put it in somebody else's hands, you won't have to worry about it!

I think I have her card somewhere... [ She'll just shuffle around her desk for that now. ]

[Josuke takes a few minutes to peruse the website before replying, during which his first thought is: Holy shit this is so girly looking! Ordinarily, he might have taken that as a sign that Alison and her team were ill-fitted to host a party for someone like him, but after reading the business' professional statement, he actually feels a bit more confident in the services they could provide...

Plus, the name's really catchy, and Josuke's a sucker for labels.]

It looks pretty promising! I'll give them a shout and see if they can swing it.

[A beat and then...]

Hey, you gonna come?

[He meant it when he said the more the merrier.]

Oh. Me? Uh...

We don't really know each other. Is that okay?

Why wouldn't it be?

Can't get to know somebody if you don't hang around with them, right? And then I could say thanks for the party planner referral in person!

You don't really have to say thank you for that, but... Yeah. Good point. There's no better way to get to know people other than to spend time with them.

What day is your party?

Maybe not, but I wanna.

And it's the tenth...I think? I guess it'll depend on whether Ms. Hendrix can arrange it for then or not.

That's... a pretty good day, actually, I think. [ She doesn't have to figure out whether or not she's suitable to attend a certain wedding that way. This is fine! ] Awesome.

We don't really know each other that well, so I'd feel weird asking for stuff. How about we just hang out sometime?

Most of what I like to do is probably really boring to everybody else. I read a lot, mostly. It's not exactly a group activity.

Nothing wrong with reading, but you're right...that's not really something we can do together unless you're cool with just chillin' in the same room while I do something else.

[Some friends are like that. He doesn't judge. Besides, doing different activities doesn't mean they can't still talk at the same time, right? Like...between chapters or something. And during commercials.]

But the arcade, if you're really sure and you like gaming, that's great!

I don't know a whole lot about gaming. I actually think I've only been to an arcade a couple of times.

I'd be willing to give it another shot, though.

It's a good thing there's all kinds of games, then. Maybe we'll find something that simulates something else you like to do!
