[Mako's blue tipped hair is the first thing that appears, then her dark brown eyes before she pulls away, her expression one of both curiosity and seriousness as she focuses on the camera. Her voice is Japanese in accent, quiet, and tightly controlled.]


My name is Mako Mori and I am looking for anyone involved with the Pan Pacific Defense Corps or any who may know them. [She frowns a little, though her tone remains very polite.] I know little beyond what this booklet has told me about this place, so if anyone has any information they might like to share, please do not hesitate to respond.

[She thinks a little more and after a slight pause, nods once, decisively.]

I am also curious if there might be a gymnasium or recreation room available in De Chima that anyone might recommend as that is where I have been assigned quarters. I have not gone beyond Heropa at this point in time, but that will be my first destination.

Not precisely, no. But she did arrive a couple days after we did last time, and we just celebrated our anniversary. I only had the check for the exact date.

[Her eyes widen in incredibly pleased surprise and the relief is sharp and intense, but something she pushes back. She would know that voice anywhere, even without the confirming identification.]

I wonder if the Porter adheres to a different timezone? Not likely, but a handful of hours later and it would have been extremely suspect.

I do, quite well. [The fact that his name came up so quickly makes Mako feel much less uneasy and it shows just enough in the way her shoulders ease.]

[The Major is always happy to see a fellow native of Japan.] I'm not familiar with that organization, but it likely didn't exist where I'm from. I might be able to answer some of your questions, though I've been a bit out of the loop for a few months myself.

What kind of gym are you looking for?

From what I haven seen, there are many different people that have come here. It seems that is far more likely than not.

[Mako thinks for a moment, inclining her head in thanks.]

I would appreciate a gym that is equipped for martial arts. Rangers, such as myself, use jo for our training drills, but it is not strictly necessary.

True. I take it that it's a military outfit if you're a Ranger?

[She places a hand to her chin for a moment.]

It's probably not hard to find a dojo, but one welcoming to people with superpowers might be another matter.

I was born in Japan, though I lived in Alaska for many years. [Mako definitely doesn't hide her curiosity as she studies his face.] Are you from Japan as well?

[He shifts a bit, metal creaking.]

[He knows that accent--and that's immediately what grabs his attention the moment Mako comes on the feed. His hand scrambles to grab for the comm, brows raised and watching her broadcast.]

You're Japanese?

[His own accent follows through as well, only confirming it by switching off the automatic translation and asking in Japanese soon after:]

You're new here, aren't you? There's no Pacific Defense whatever that I know of. You're not even near the Pacific Ocean!

I am both Japanese and new to this place. The last thing I remember I was in Hong Kong engaged in a battle to close a breach between Earth and another dimension.[She knows relative few people, if any that would remain unsurprising by that Mako has her moments herself.]

Probably the last thing you remember from your world. They kind of take you at the worst possible times, you know?

But when you're here, time's pretty much stopped back home. So that date you've probably got planned with the breach?

[There have been many interesting sights and the image that greets her is no exception. If Dr Geiszler knows him, then she will keep her trust in him. Mako smiles in greeting.]

As I am pleased to meet you. Have you been here long?

Two years as of August. [A pause.] I can assure you, though, that you won't miss any important events. When we're brought here, it is as if time has stopped at home.

[The boy on the screen is thirteen but he honestly looks no more than eleven. When he speaks, he has a similar accent to her.]

Hi, Mori-san. I think there were a couple people, but they must've found you already.

I don't know about De Chima, but I think there should be a training facility in Nonah. The cities are easily accessible by the Porters. They'll let you teleport.

Hello. I am pleased to meet you. [She nods as she listens, inclining her head in a slight bow of respect.]

A training facility is very much what I'm looking for. The facility is for people with powers, correct? If it turns out mine prove to be a problem, do you know if they will be contained properly?

It depends. The training facility has people who're experienced and can give you pointers, but it's still an ordinary building. I don't use it for my powers because one involves summoning something that's about the size of the place itself, so I try to find some open space... usually outside the big cities.

[The young man onscreen shares Mako's seriousness, as well as her quiet, controlled way of speaking. Their accents, however, are very different. Van's could even be described as something not from Earth, though his English isn't poor by any means.]

Miss Mako...I'm Van—Van Fanel. I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with the people you mentioned, but I am a resident of De Chima, like you.
