I would be happy if you'd do me the honor of answering a few questions.

First, I would have it known how a doctor sets about establishing their license to practice. Is it the case that such legality is established upon entrance to this world? I highly doubt any sane medical council would permit an unlicensed physician to remain in post, as negligence is surely as endemic in this world as anywhere else. Pertinently, what funding is available for research fellowships, or starting one's own practice?

Second, might those of you with an appreciation of medical science be willing to permit me to make an account of your state of health? A physical examination with all that's entailed. Were I so fortunate as to receive your participation in medical screening, I dare say that it would assist the future treatment of everyone.

Please do me the honor of withholding your response if it fails to address either point in question. You have my gratitude, in any case.

Since the very beginning, yes. There are those who will distrust an institution to their own detriment, and those who can be both skeptic and opportunist.

I'm of the latter.

I cannot pretend that surprises me; that is to say I suppose most share your view.

Now. What aspect of psychiatry have you familiarized yourself with the most, may I ask? Pediatric?

The criminally insane. But I have since moved on to specialize in imPort psychology, in fact.

We are uniquely positioned to possess that insight, being imPorts ourselves.

That is true. Yet I would rather passionately develop my insight on the physical world. The psychic world of man serves no value to my purposes.

Fair enough. We all have our pet passions.

Are you from a world where supernatural ability is the norm? I was not, so the transition between my original world and this empowered one was quite interesting. Physical powers, I mean.

I expect it was intriguing for you.

But I will answer your question: they are indeed. You will perhaps be mildly amused to learn they are linked to one's occupation. The idea is amusing enough to me. Yet it was the case till recently that physical power was given only if one paid a tithe. However, I obtained my power in a rather different manner.

Really? That is different -- quite interesting in fact. I imagine that sort of power dynamic, no pun intended, really did enforce order.

Not especially; the unscrupulous and ignorant theocracy enforcing such a dynamic were overthrown a little over a decade ago. Attempts were made to declaw them without bloodshed, but I fear idealogical nonsense addled their minds.

You argue a good point, though. But the most significant contribution to that dynamic was the corruption of political power, in my professional opinion.

Ah, what a pity. But still -- a fascinating study. I cannot help but find variant societal dynamics worth conversation.

Even if they tend to result in incurable corruption. Human nature, perhaps.

Quite so. Few human beings seem possessed of the spirit of virtue. Together or alone, are we not capable of the most irreparable evil?

Such corruption should strike more people senseless, honestly. I shudder to think why it doesn't.

Do you hope to find variation in that pattern in this world?

[curada]

No. I should have willingly said yes upon one time; I don't expect such optimism any longer. I will not have faith in such things and beg you don't attempt to convince me otherwise.

Nothing wrong with pragmatism, actually. Better to be rational about the facts as they remain than to act otherwise.

You speak like all humans are rational creatures. Yet some humans do not deserve the compliment of being afforded rational opposition.

Oh, I didn't mean to give that impression at all.

Yes. I suppose such optimism is futile, in either case. But there is a professional concern I would pick your brain about; are you available at a later date?

I should be a free man after six in the evenings. I confess that the day itself is irrelevent to me; I would be happy to attend on one at your leisure.
