[Jacob films this post while standing in front of the white walls of Helix Station in Maurtia Falls, wearing a navy-blue tank top and black shorts. Judging by the sweat visible on his arms, he just finished his exercise for the morning. His ramrod-straight posture projects an image of Official Business that doesn't match his casual tone of voice, or his workout clothes.]

Hey, everyone. I'm Jacob Taylor. I work with RISE: that's an imPort police team, for all you new arrivals out there. I'm putting together something new for the community... kind of a public safety resource. Like the FAQ, but focused on who's causing trouble these days.

So I thought I'd ask: what do you think are the biggest threats around here? Criminals, terrorists, the Soviets? Maybe there's something most of us haven't heard about yet that more people need to know about. It's important to be aware, especially when people might want you dead. There's always something happening under the surface around here.

Oh, and just so we're clear: this is going to be a list focusing on groups, not individual people. So don't bother talking about who your least favourite imPorts are.

[He pauses for a moment, then relaxes his posture as he segues into more civilian matters.]

That's about it for official business. Unofficially... I was wondering if anybody has got suggestions on a good name for a dog.

Aliens! So they really are out there? At least, where you're from. I'd imagine they're just trying to live out perfectly normal lives, as anyone on earth might be doing? Do any of them consider humans or... well, earthlings... hostile?

Not for me there isn't. I don't get along with half the fuckers in it, and it's not like the shit ever stops flying around here anyway. If it stays or not, it's pretty much all the same to me.

[Sabriel. she is mostly talking about how much she doesn't get along with Sabriel, but l m a o naming names and explaining herself.]

[She knows he's trying not to laugh and she doesn't blame him for it. It probably does seem odd for a small girl like her being worried about being on a watch-list, but...]

I thought, because of my powers...but I'm glad I'm not.

[Though she supposes if they were going to put her on a watch list, there'd been no point in bringing her here in the first place.]

Why's everybody gotta hate on Maurtia Falls?

I mean, it's only on fire maybe three out of four times. That's not too shabby.

[There is a delay before she answers.]

Honestly I wouldn't know how to explain. Suffice to say, it's...empty now.

Yeah. I'm not sure how it's all gonna play out from where things stand at the moment back home, but. I guess we'll see. Whenever Mika and I get back.

[It's a long story and there's plenty of betrayal and backstabbing and politics bs to go with it.]

Hm? Oh. Yeah. I've talked to one or two of them, I think. They seem different to how vampires are back home. [At least in appearance and in comparison to some powers of sorts. So Yuu seems okay with them? Sort of. And obviously, to him, Mika will always be an exception.]

The best dog of the world? I never knew there was a movie like that here. Did you see it back home or here?

I don't think most people even remember they exist since they've been so silent. But a lot of people don't know about the past events with... well, everyone who tried something against imPorts. [ like the Hornets. It's not really something they should forget or others should live without knowing. Sasaki thinks it's important that people realize that bad things happen, even in American soil and caused by American people ]

You'd think someone with such a past would learn to do better than just live in the present.

Some of them, yeah. We fought a First Contact war with the turians, and the batarians basically think we're a plague on the Galaxy. The Reapers are a whole different category: all organics are basically just bacteria to them.

But it's not all bad. Humans recently became a member race on the Citadel Council. That's the main political force in the Galaxy. It's where the big decisions get made... or don't.

[Friggin' Council.]

[Jacob chuckles.]

Okay. I guess I can't argue with that.

It's called 'Old Yeller.' I saw it in my own world, but I'm pretty sure it exists here too.

Well in this case, it probably has something to do with the dog-fighting ring I busted last year. Seems people in that city will find a way to make money off of anything.

[Jacob relaxes, and nods.]

Right. There's a difference between a criminal and a terrorist. Or a serial killer.

So you were mainly in it for the money?

They don't judge people based on powers, here. Even when it might help keep people safe.

[Heroes can't even get a look at the files of people they're investigating. Which is a bit of a pain when you're trying to track down someone with, say, fire powers and you can't find out who has fire powers.]

Can I ask what you've got that's so dangerous?

Really? She always seems so sweet. Has she been having... accidents?

Yeah. And that's a problem, because most of those past problems aren't really in the past. The bad guys don't just disappear in between events.

Well, aside from the Hornets. At least we took them down for good.

Really? People have pretty intense feelings about it here. They say the kind of pet you like somehow reflects on what kind of person you are.

Doing our job has a way of making enemies. We're not exactly popular with the people we stop.

Empty. No people?

I work with those fuckers, and I've got a lot of respect for them. They're the ones who stand up to CATCH the shit.

I hope we can change your mind about us someday.

[She hesitates. And then reasons that she's already told other people, so there's no point in hiding it. If it becomes a problem in the future, then she'll insist that she alone be the one to deal with the consequences.]

I can manipulate memories. Only of a certain group of people, but. It was a problem for those people, back on my world.

[What she fails to realize is that being here has widened the parameters of that 'certain group of people' to include 'everyone in the current world' instead.]

[ Or an arsonist, but Mick's gonna continue to keep that little bit to himself. ]

Sorta. [ He rubs the back of his neck. ] Money's always nice. But if that was all I wanted I wouldnt've needed a costume for that. You could call it a status thing.

Mmm, says you. Living for the present's the best way to do things. Because I have such a past, I've learned that it's damn hard to plan for the future.

Perhaps in times of peace, the people of my world have the luxury to worry about who claims what animal for a favored companion. For the last few decades, however, that luxury has been rare indeed.
