And of all the places to wage the Cold War 2.0, they pick fucking Florida. [ she scoffs, as if that's somehow the worst offense of all. ] How do we leave this shithole?

[ there's a pointed beat of silence, as she presses her lips together in contemplation. almost as an afterthought, she adds: ]

And where can I get a drink around here? The cheaper, the better.

[from Lapis' flat tone, this particular answer may contain just the smallest hint of...not sarcasm, but something close. she was pretty sure most people ought to know what a damn gemstone was, even if they had to equate it to the nonsentient ones of earth.]

[ yeah, jess knows by now she won't understand the quip. who cares. ]

Last time I checked, rocks can't talk.

I'm from a planet called Homeworld, but I guess to you that's the same as space.

[ because somehow jessica can't remember her name, even though she's repeated it twice by now. ]

[that's three for three now, with no apparent signs of stopping. but what does stop, without warning, is the conversation; as soon as Jessica says they're done she just reaches up and turns off the video without so much as an acknowledgement or a goodbye.
