[The woman on the video is tall and stern-looking, with blue eyes that kind of make you feel cold just by looking at them.]

This is Major-General Olivier Mira Armstrong. For those of you who don't know me, I'm the commander of RISE: Rogue Import Suppression Enforcement. We're an imPort-run group that works with the local law enforcement to police our own, and handle crises that local, unpowered officers can't. We're headquartered out of Helix Station in Maurtia Falls, and were instrumental in fighting back the Soviet occupation some months ago.

The whims of the device that brings us here and sends us home have left my staff limited. I need new recruits, both those willing to confront potential rogue imPorts, and those willing to bring them to justice via trials.

[Aral Vorkosigan is, if nothing else, miltary-prompt. He leaves the rented car just a few minutes before their agreed on time and strides out, pressed dress greens was just as sharply in uniform as the holster with some sort of sci-fi gun in it was.

Folding his overcoat at the door, the arrangements are made with whatever reception holds the front desk to alert Olivier to her guest.]

[It's a spartan operation. Helix is half compound and half recreational facility, and the receptionist-- a local woman, apparently-- ushers him in to a long gray hallway decorated with office doors. The Major-General's is at the end of it, she tells him.

If he's curious, the other doors are locked.

Olivier's office door is all but bare with the exception of a single, straightforward nameplate. If he knocks, she'll call him in.] Enter.

[Her office is similarly spartan, the only decoration the long saber hanging at the back of the wall. It's lined with file cabinets.] Admiral.

[Vorkosigan offers a respectful nod as he steps in, sweeping a brief look over the room itself. (Corners first, out of old, old habit.)

He steps in, near the chair, but doesn't sit yet.

He doesn't waste time with pleasantries.]

I have some interest in RISE, and a few questions about the same. I imagine you've the same.

[She notes the way he checks the room. Military. Not bad. The title isn't just for show.] Sit down.

[He settles into the seat across from her and leans back in the chair.]

From what I understand, RISE's main purpose, and what it has come under fire for is handling of imPort behaviors when dealing with those who cannot conduct themselves appropriately. [To say the least.] What I cannot understand is the endgame. Political sway, simple military leeway or is it a more altruistic standpoint as an organization?

[Olivier adjusts in her seat, resting both elbows on her desk and threading her fingers together.] What makes you think I have an endgame in mind?

Either we're going to police ourselves, or someone else is going to police us. I choose self-governance.
