Hello, everyone! Happy Halloween! I do hope you're all celebrating appropriately.

[Sadie's standard-issue martini glass has been replaced by a finely crafted beer stein that happens to contain a high-ABV pumpkin ale. In deference to the holiday, she's wearing a witch's hat with her usual gown.]

If we haven't met yet, I'm Mrs. Sadie Doyle, and it's so lovely to meet you all!

[She raises her stein in a toast that's meant to be charming.]

However, I've been wondering. Where are the ghosts, the ghoulies, the spirits who simply won't take no for an answer? Oh, I know we have a few among our little band of imPorts, but I find it very strange that there are none who lived and died and after-lived all in this world.

At least none that have bothered me, and I'm a medium—they always find me, sooner or later. But they haven't, in the months I've been here. Why...it's almost a little lonely.

[For a moment, she looks thoughtful, then beams again.]

Well, do have fun on this spookiest of days! Don't eat yourself sick from candy, or candy-flavored vodka!

What do these spirits need?

Assistance, generally, though the form it takes varies considerably. Some are cursed and require aid, others wish to do the cursing and require aid, many are simply whiny.

And do you help them?

If it can't be avoided! And occasionally out of the goodness of my heart.

Right. Well - can others do what you do?

Oh, certainly. My skills aren't common, but a select few share them. My husband Frank, for instance. He's been a naturally skilled medium his whole life.

Is that why you got married?

I got married because I love him, dear.

[Like. Obviously.]

[ A little wrinkle of her nose, none too approving. Marriage is, in Kitty's view, oppressively bourgeois. ]

It's how we met, but I married my Frank because I wanted to spend the rest of my life and drink all my drinks with him.

Oh no, I live for a living! Drinking, mostly, and making headlines on the society pages. Being a medium is more of a natural talent!

Every week, Sadie graces the television airwaves with her advice for the lovelorn! It's very popular, I'm surprised you haven't seen it before.

[He could certainly use the advice, though she's too well-mannered to say so out loud.]

Ah, I'm afraid I don't watch too much TV. Books are more my speed.

[It's half true, but mostly just braggadocio. He watches some TV.

And, you know, has watched entire movies in hopes that something salacious happens. Nobody praise this guy.]

Then as a literate man, tell me, what are your favorite books? Myself, I prefer non-fiction.

[Like, books of drink recipes.]

Oh, well, you know. [He reads a lot of stupid pulp, but to be fair, he does have middle-aged white man taste in literature too. It makes him feel better.] I do have something of a passion for the classic. Dickens, Dostoevsky, David Foster Wallace, Vonnegut and the like. Why, are you looking to gain a new hobby? I would be more than happy to walk you through it.

Not at all! [She's got one. She carries it with her in a flask.] But I enjoy hearing about what my dear friends enjoy.

Well of course! And aren't I yours?

[It doesn't take much to become a dear friend of Sadie's.]

Oh, well -- of course! No question of that. [NERVOUS LAUGHTER.] Though if that's the case, then we should certainly be seeing one another more than at the odd imPort gathering.
