Those of you from an alternate Earth, what similarities or differences have you noticed between this world and yours? Specifically, I'm looking to pinpoint where a great deal of our common ground lies, and if there's a trend where most timelines appear to diverge. Discussion encouraged.

As well, if there are any research institutions with room for a theoretical physicist and biologist interested in solving the mysteries of this world, please do get in touch.

There is a whole sentient species in my world, somewhat similar to humans, which doesn't exist in this one. They are called "ghouls". Anything related to them, - such as capture, neutralization and research centers, learning and training facilities against ghouls - doesn't exist here, either. Aside that, most things are similar. Geography, technology and development. Not politics, however, since my world's politics involve the existence of ghouls as well.

Have they always existed in your world? Or was there a point in history where they became known?

We don't really know when they came to exist, because it's not something humans ever cared to learn. Plus, ghouls can hide themselves as humans. We know they have existed for centuries or even millennia.

How would you describe them?

Water levels, mostly.

The Ghoul Countermeasures Law states: "A species, against which special precautions should be taken, known as Ghouls, are distinct in that it is confirmed that they can produce kakugan and kagune." A kakugan denotes a ghoul's eye where the iris turns red, and the sclera black with red veins across the eye and into the skin around the eye. A kagune is a ghoul's predatory organ and functions as their weapon and claws.

How did the water levels vary?

So they exist as enemies of the human race then?

Higher. Naturally. Melted ice caps centuries ago. London is located well below sea level now. It has a system to keep the tide out.

It's not very environmentally healthy, and it's a total backwater location-wise, but it's still the birthplace of humanity. We're not going to abandon it.

A ghoul can only feed on humans and other ghouls. They are unable to digest any other type of food due to a particular enzyme their bodies produce. The structure of their tongues is also different, making other foods taste disgusting and uncomfortable So yes. They are seen as enemies and monsters. The law also states there are no laws that protect these individuals and they are to be prosecuted and killed.

[Ah yes, global warming, the environmental crisis the world had been worried about before giant monsters came tearing through and threatening humanity's direct extinction. With the war over now, they had an exhausting amount of work to do if there was any hope for Earth long-term]

Do you prefer this world then?

It's [ INSERT SOME YEAR STARTING WITH 3000 IN HERE. ] But that's been the state of things for a long time.

I'm not hunted by the authorities and most people I have met are kind, regardless of what I am. It's a kinder place for ghouls, at least.

Yes, you said centuries..

I remember hearing about that global crisis, but that was before the war. With all the damage the Kaiju have wreaked on our planet, I wonder if we have any hope of preserving it. It's already 2025.

It's probably best to focus on space travel. A lot of the work of preserving Earth and keeping it habitable was done after we'd settled Beta Colony.

No, you can't. Not really. In any case, I have not met anyone else from a world with ghouls as well, thus it seems like a very specific detail from mine.

Well, I wouldn't exactly call it alternate but it seems like most people here are pretty much Earth-bound and that's just sad! I mean, no one here has even heard of the Vegas Quadrant!

We have the Kaiju in our world- or did. They certainly weren't sentient by any means- little more than tools of destruction. But they only came into existence twelve years ago, and we've narrowly won that particular war.

Also not a story I've heard from anyone else- which is a bit startling since we know they've conquered other worlds before invading ours.

[And he's something of a space geek, but still. Their world was very nearly destroyed once already, so it's a bit frustrating to think that even after they saved it from colossal monsters, it might still end]

What's the approximate population remaining on Earth?

It is unfortunate, but not all worlds have mastered space travel on a grand scale. Here, Vegas only refers to a city in this country.

About 9 billion. It's still the most populous planet in the Nexus.
