[Try as she might, Sookie can't figure out how to do this anonymously, so at the very least she won't show her face. It's too damn embarrassing.]

[Richie on the other hand is definitely being anonymous when he responds.]

There's plenty of ways. Technology is amazing like that. Or you could just lie and say that your powers only work on a blue moon. A real blue moon. Won't be another one of those for a couple years.

All the more convincing. If you do not wish to show whatever power it is you actually hold, make it into a believable threat. People will usually back down.

Here's one: the ability to quit jobs with dumbass bosses.

And if that doesn't work just go with learning a card trick or something. Or throw someone else under the bus to draw attention away from yourself.

If you have a gift you shouldn't be ashamed of it.

Because many men are cads with no boundaries! Sadly, it's up to women like us to put them in their places.

[ Yeah, his knowledge of how vampires might actually work is about what you might expect; he mostly has pop culture and the singular cannibal he knows (a different thing, but similar... ish) to go off of... so. ]

Yeah. It's cool.

[ He's quiet, then after a moment shrugs his shoulders. ]

But look, don't let no one make you do nothing you don't want to, either.

Doesn't stop them from findin' you half the time.

[just being honest here, Sookie.]

That sounds about right for him. But what the hell did Crane have to say to you?

So what power are you trying to fake?

Pick something that can't be verified. I have a conditional ability, for example. It doesn't affect anyone who isn't directly sworn to me, which is a short list in this dimension.

As long as the contract don't say you gotta tell them what your power is, you can keep telling them to shove until it runs out.
