So. It's winter, which means it's the holiday season where you circulate those online shopping "buy me these things" lists, spend too long in retail shopping lines--and realize you honestly don't know what to buy people who you know REALLY well.

I don't say this often, and you probably won't hear it again, but HALP PLS.

Shopping for: Male. Mid-Thirties. NERD. Likes space and math and robots. Dresses like an academic dork (stuffy librarian). Significant enough other that a spending limit does not exist by default. Nor is a gift objectionable due to being "too personal" or "too significant." Does not need a new watch, nor a new winter jacket. Rarely wears ties. Does not wear jewelry.

Alright, and just because: What's the BEST gift you've received?

You're welcome. I'll be sure to follow up if I find anything else of interest. And...yes, that tends to follow me around with cooking too, but I have a dear friend to help me with that now. But I see that you're already getting dinner for him squared away.

You've got a friend who specifically helps you put out fires at dinner?

Not precisely. He instructs me in the culinary arts to ensure that the fires don't start in the first place. I've breathed much easier in the last month or so, particularly now that I've taken on all the cooking. But along that vein...if there's anything else that would help your beloved relax, that could also be welcome as a gift.

Ok, first of all, yeah, uh. Hermann is not my beloved. I mean, he is, but that's just a weird word for him. It's too ♥ ✧・ﾟ: *✧ ♥ And second of all, is this mysterious master chef friend of yours like...a boyfriend?

He's excellent with steaks, I was very fond of the herb-based sauce we prepared. I'm sending a link over with that information. And I'm sorry, I'm just in somewhat of a fanciful mood at the moment, thanks in part to---yes, you're correct about our relationship. [It pains him to admit it, but he knows by now that dragging things out with Newt is unwise.]

All right. It's Mr. Gold, the broommaker. I defintely wasn't expecting something like that to happen to us. It snuck up on me, in a sense, but I think the companionship has been good for both of us.

Thanks, but man. Hermann is time-tested. Trial by fire. If he was going to ditch me, he was going to do it when I was elbow-deep in Kaiju guts or blowing my brains out with a Kaiju-Drift. He's really pretty damn awesome as far as pre-husband type people go.

I assume he has a name, but it's secret. We read to each other, partake in film criticism, go on walks...I've had the time of my life with him, and I admit to reading this post in the hopes of finding ideas myself. Dr. Gottlieb is most certainly a keeper, whatever gifts you exchange.

You've got all those inventions kicking around in your head, why not make him something? Doesn't even have to be something big or lifechanging...maybe just a nice clock? You guys should also go stargazing sometime. I don't know much about the broom-maker, but *I* like it when *my* nerd talks spacey to me. Show him your favorite stars.

I've already made a timepiece, it was how I charmed him into kissing me, but I do have other ideas...and I do enjoy stargazing, I'll have to ask him! (Oh, are you planning to wake him up and shove him to the ceremony one day?)

Sure, but I think the plan is to just elope so not much to do unless you're ordained or something?? But you definitely can assist by still being here in March 2017. I'd like to have the wedding Hermann planned even if we're already technically married.
