What is the point of this holiday?

That depends on who you ask, really. Christmas as different meanings for different people in different countries and following different religions. For Japan, where I'm from, it's mostly a date night, and an excuse to shower people you care about with gifts.

I went to a mall for the first time last month. It was... certainly different from anything we had back home.

I've seen more. So many people focused on material objects, however, is a different matter.

Yeah, that's for sure. A lot of the holiday is materialistic.

Again, that depends on who you ask. Supposedly it's some celebration of the birth of some savior in Christian religion.

Most people these days will say it's celebrating life and love with the people you care about.

I know something of the Christian religion. It is the birth of Jesus Christ, who is considered to be the son of their god. Still, it does not explain the extent of the celebration, but... ( a final sigh )

I suppose it is something many societies have in common. ( Now, onto a better topic: )

Yeah, that. My only guess is that things have changed so much over the hundreds of years since then that no one even really knows for sure how they celebrated it.
