I don’t really celebrate Christmas but New Year is much more important in my country. Still, thank you to all of those who remembered, and I do hope you had a good holiday. [ but he'll focus on the "New Year" subject ] Years are traditionally viewed as completely separate, with each new year providing a fresh start. That means, all duties are supposed to be completed by the end of the year – I’m curious what tasks do you need to finish before then. And also curious about what New Year's resolutions you have in mind.

Being here always makes it difficult to plan ahead, but some people have been here for far too long, as well. So I don't think it's wrong to think about a future here. [ though his future is always so very questionable.

ANYWAY.

The happy funtimes are over, though, and Kaneki will get on the mirror!Network next because he doesn’t trust the government and this is a touchy subject. ]

On a very different and more serious matter, I'd like to ask for your opinion regarding registration. Let’s assume an imPort arrives and they require something to survive and without it, they’d die. The government is willing to provide it as long this imPort is registered. However, if they don’t register and try to acquire whatever they need through other means, it’s considered illegal and they will be thrown in jail for it.

How truly optional would this registration be, then?

Indeed. Which means that some imPorts really don't have this choice the government claims to give all of us.

Quite mandatory, in this case. As we'd discussed previously. It's hardly a choice at all.

[Didn't he witness a similar discussion with Kaneki... no Sasaki... a few months back where he was going on about how grateful he was for being registered and being allowed to live safely and under the government's thumb? Yeah. He was pretty sure he did. One where he'd stepped in and tried to help smooth things over with Tetsuo. So this was a definitely a heel-face turn on the kid's part.

We have. I thought I should also ask the opinion of fellow imPorts, just in case the question of what the others thought came about. [ of course he worded it the best way he could without freaking anyone out. He has a feeling if he said the requirement was human flesh, many would not so easily agree ]

I can try answering. I can't promise I know everything about my biology though. [ since he is a special case, and not ghoul-born. Still, many scientists poked and prodded at him for three years back home, so he isn't completely oblivious to his physiology ]

Things with the Porter are complicated. When she was here for a year, she didn't have the ability to eat normal food, that's a recent change the Porter felt like giving her, which it can take back once it's bored.

[ Kaneki is afraid the Porter will change his mind. But it's not just that. Hinami needs to eat humans if she wants to have access to her ghoul abilities, and it's not the first time something bad happens where she has to protect herself. ]

There is also the matter that, if more ghouls show up here, things start to get tricky. I can't get food for everyone like this.

Yeah, the Porter's got a sick sense of humor.

[He didn't know she'd been there for a year without that before this. He didn't know a lot about who'd been around before or not. Just wasn't easy to keep up with or find the information listed somewhere for easy perusal. But Kaneki was right on that. If the Porter decided to be a fuckwit, it could easily take back the boon it'd given.]

Still ain't said what you plan on doing about it. So what is it?

I don't think the government should forbid us from getting what we need solely because we aren't registered. I understand it's a very complicated subject, but as imPorts, they know our nature and requirements from the files they have on us. They know it's a biologic necessity, not something we do for fun. [ he doesn't mention "bodies" because he knows Daryl doesn't take it well, but he is obviously talking about that ] Under that premise, we should be allowed access to it without registration requirement.

I want to bring this to the government and ask them to change this law they have imposed on us. I have been talking to the ambassadors so they can help me to make an appeal to the government.

They gonna help?

[He understood what the kid was getting at. It was still a sore subject, but dancing around the actual words of 'human flesh' helped Daryl divorce his thoughts from it enough to be able to talk about it in a mostly reasonable fashion.]

They will help. They all agreed it wasn't fair for the government to use basic needs as means to force registration upon someone.

Must the bodies you be eat come from full humans? If it were possible to grow human body parts, would that also satiate you?

Then you got a chance. If the government don't take it... we can probably work something out.

[Even if he doesn't like the idea of feeding a dead body to anyone, there were plenty of people in the world that were shit enough to deserve death. And with how he was searching out missing persons lately, he'd ran into more than a few. Not all of them had to be arrested. Some could wind up dead.]

I never tried anything of the sort, so I don't know.

Does this world have that sort of technology, even? [ sure, you can grow a ear on a mice's back, but that's very different from a full body part with different tissues. ] Unless you are talking about growing a body part on someone - that'd probably be considered mutilation.

My home has that exact tech. It may be possible to replicate it here with the right engineers.

And I'm not talking about cutting off an extra limb. Although if I could do such a thing, I'd be open to trying.

If the government doesn't take it, they they'll just be endangering their people.

Me and Hinami are not the only ones. [ just leaving this out there. The government knows very well there are more cannibals and beings that rely on human flesh to survive, around here ] If they want to risk continuing on this path, they risk continuing to have crimes committed.

We all know how to survive without the government. [ so really, this change in the law is a lot more important to the government than to the cannibals ]

If there are more'n you two, then not taking it don't endanger their people more than they already are.

no one is getting hurt to feed anyone. Ghouls and humans can understand each other without murder and maiming one another. [ THAT is the most important thing here. Every cannibal knows how to hunt without being caught, Kaneki included; and even if they were caught, the 2 months of prison aren't anything special. The most important thing is to live in an understanding, which can be achieved without blood if only someone gives them the chance to. ]

Even with that technology, would it be possible to feed everyone? I'm not the only one, and a ghoul needs a body a month. I don't know everyone's requirements, but- it's not just one limb we are talking about here. [ he needs the amount of one adult body ]

[ he pauses. ]

No. This isn't something you should ever have to do.

And I do think that we all can understand each other; I believe it's possible. We just need a chance, so maybe this government will give it. And if not, it'll not be your responsibility, Daryl.

[His tone up until now had been pretty agitated, but at this, it fell to something softer.]

Ain't gonna let you starve. You need to eat and need to keep the government off your back at the same time, then I'll do what I gotta.

[In so many words, he was saying he did feel it was his responsibility. Whether he liked it or not, he would what he had to to keep the group together, safe, and fed.]

Sorry, sorry. Just a morbid thought.

As for speed, I'm not entirely sure. It would be doable back home. Here ... It depends on what we can do.

Even if they catch me, they'll only lock me up for robbing a cemetery or morgues. They wouldn't keep me locked up for very long.
