I would suggest to work towards reversing the damage done by your mistake, sir. Which, of course, depends on what the mistake was and what can be done about it.
I severed two fingers of an immortal volunteer I offered pilfered opiates to, for a scientific experiment, in the kitchen of the place I live with my roommate/colleague. Said colleague walked in on said event. I also got blood everywhere and the cat almost got into it.
