[Video/Action] SKATER BOYS Part 1 (@ Heropa #017)

[ The video opens on two young men sitting side by side on a couch, set up to address the camera together. One is younger, Japanese, with dark hair and glasses; he is way, way less enthused about this than the platinum blond Russian dude waving enthusiastically at the video feed. ]

Um … well … I’m … Katsuki Yuuri. [ He trails off, mumbling more about himself, but it doesn’t quite make it to the microphone. He seems wildly uncomfortable to be doing this. The last phrase sounds something like “nice to meet you” but it’s hard to tell. ]

[ The Russian chooses that moment to sling an arm around the shoulders of his embarrassed companion and lean on him a bit, his heart-shaped smile and handsome face gorgeous enough to be in a fashion magazine. He looks into the camera with no hesitation at all. ]

Hiii! [ he proclaims brightly, his Russian accent becoming more evident as he talks. ] I’m Viktor Nikiforov, and I’m Yuuri’s figure skating coach! We just finished our biggest competition of the year, the Grand Prix Final, and we just wanted to reach out to our fans to thank them all for their support!

[ Yuuri chokes at that, his next comment coming out as a squawk. ]

-- Eh!? VIktor, this is a different dimension! We don’t have fans here!

But we can get NEW fans! [ Viktor winks at the camera before he turns his head to look at Yuuri mischievously. ]

Wh - Viktor, no! We don’t know anyone! Not in public--!

[ And then the feed goes down as Yuuri manages to knock it over before Viktor throws himself at him. ]

I've been doing it for a long time, yeah. But Viktor adores skating too, don't get me wrong.

I'm sure he does, and there's nothing wrong with it either way. Different people are going to have different reasons for doing things, aren't they?

[ Yuuri nods fervently at that. ]

Even among figure skaters. I think everyone has their own unique reason for skating.

It keeps things interesting. It'd be a little boring if everyone were doing it for the same reason, I think.

Mm, yeah. I agree. When I'm out on the ice, I want to be the only one who can do what I'm doing.

You must be close to the only one if you've made it as far as the Grand Prix Final—if you aren't the best already.

[Of course Inanna watches figure skating. How could they not?]

[ Yuuri ducks his head a bit at that, blushing rather hard. ]

I do! The big international one, right?

Yeah. Just six skaters ... I qualified last year too, but I did horribly. So Viktor coached me this year.

"Horribly"? Doesn't that mean you were still one of the 6 best skaters in the entire world though?

[ That's. An incredibly good point, actually. ]

W-well - yes but - ah, I lost the nationals pretty badly right after too ...

And then you made it back to the Grand Prix anyway...

[This kid is real bad at perspective, huh...]

[ Super bad. Here's a guy who could really do with a dose of accepting that he's actually pretty awesome. ]

W... well ... I work really hard, but I'm inconsistent. Viktor helps push me past my limits.

Oh, yes. He was the five time Grand Prix gold medalist, and he won five Grand Championships back to back as well. He took a break to coach me, though.

[Just who is this kid? Sweeping a 5 time world champion off his feet with all the spine of a sea slug—it's amazing in its own right.]

He must have been quite taken with you to go that far.

[OH. OH WOW that explains—a little bit. They're sure there's more to the story, but this is an entertaining start.]

He couldn't look away, probably. I don't know where Chris got that pole from.

—A pole?! No wonder—! [They cut themselves short abruptly with an awkwardly stifled laugh.]

Sorry, sorry. It seems like it's embarrassing for you, isn't it?

It's so embarrassing ... and I didn't even know it happened until the next Grand Prix Final.

[ When he'd seen the photo and video evidence. ]
