[ Well, it was going to happen sooner or later, but it makes Aurican curious about others' opinions. ]

My teacher is telling me I've might become too advance for my current grade. [ First grade, that is. ] She's given me a few books that the third graders are reading, but I've already finished those.

[ Which is both a proud and frustrating moment, as Aurican isn't sure what counts as difficult for a teacher. ]

How common is it for young humans to be in older classmates? I'm not human, I'm a dragon, but I still attend a human school in a human body, so I know I'll still be seen as a boy.

[ God help Aurican if he has to attend AP High School courses. ]

It's not that common. Well, okay, no, it's not completely uncommon. There are always kids that skip one or two grades here and there, but you're advancing faster than most humans, kiddo. You're advancing like a prodigy, and I say that as someone who is, or was, one. It gets awkward at the later stages more than the early ones. At the early ones, there's some teasing about being small and the little guy and all that, but when you get further along, human children ...teenagers, really, hit this thing called puberty and that level of maturation is a big...well. Divide. Don't try to keep up with them socially then. It's not worth it. It'll only end in heartbreak. Just keep doing the academic thing, dude, and you'll be rocking.

Kang's keeping you stocked on books, right?

...That's when you get sneaky. I used to read things under my desk all the time. Or in my desk, if you have one of those cubby kind of desks where you can try to hide a book. Don't keep lizards in your desk, though. Or bugs. Teachers can kind of put up with the reading, but they really don't like you keeping creatures in your desk.

Let me see if Hermann has any suggestions. He was a super nerd like that.

[Grumbling to himself] Kang's going to have to have a parent-teacher conference.

Not allowed to read in class? What on Earth? ..Well I suppose if it isn't class material..

In any case, if you're going to be skipping grades, I'd advise keeping your head low and focusing on your studies. Newton's made light of it, but children aren't empathetic creatures, and older children will style themselves your superiors. You're an imPort however, so you might instead be dealing with an opposite problem of everyone wanting to befriend you.

Either way, if you have any trouble with them, do make someone aware of it. Chances are there won't be much they can do about it, but you can be advised how to handle it from there.

[From a slight distance] If a kid punches you, punch back! Then tell Kang!

Not always the best way to handle things, though occasionally effective. Don't make a habit of it, of course. One show of strength is generally enough to make people wary of you.

[Laughs in the background] Depends on the person, but yeah.

Who knows. He could end up meeting a really cool punching bag...er, friend.

True. Just don't use teeth, okay. Generally biting classmates is seen as a bad idea.

They might have cooties.
driftsintobuffetline: (idk what to call this face)

Cooties are EVIL. Girls usually have them. Sometimes guys do, too--like Hermann. Hermann has them.

Cooties are the reason Valentine's exists.

Newt, really, what kind of guardian do you take me for? I knew in advance that Aurican would progress more rapidly than his human classmates, and discussed something called an Individual Learning Plan with his instructors. We have a meeting scheduled later this week to adjust it - I don't think they quite believed me.
driftsintobuffetline: (talking with my hands)

Same

[personal profile] driftsintobuffetline 2017-03-01 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, hey, I take you for the best kind of guardian, man. I just wanted to be sure you knew teacher-parent conferences were a thing that happens. I don't know what they do in dragon-slash-draconian schools.
governorkang: (Having fun)

I did my homework before making this decision.

[holy shit this is so CUTE]

It happens, but not often. You're obviously really smart to be advancing so well!
h2no: (one path)

Re: audio

[personal profile] h2no 2017-03-02 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
What sorta stuff are you studying? Maybe you could head on down to the library and look up more advanced books for 'em!
h2no: (HAHAHAHAHAH)

Re: audio

[personal profile] h2no 2017-03-03 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
What about more advanced stuff? Like, specific offshoots. Y'got... math then, I dunno. Economics which is like math and business smashed together.

[he shrugs.]

Y'might find something you want to specialise in if you shop around.

If you're a dragon why do you look like a human though?

I ended up leaving the school and studying on my own, then I took the high school equivalency test so I got my GED and now I get university-level tutoring and lessons.

But if you want to stay with kids around your age you can talk to the teacher? Maybe do a more advanced workload but socialize with other little kids...

I don't really have a good answer! For me everyone was way too slow and I was really bored, so I just left.

[personal profile] akito 2017-03-05 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Don't be afraid of being too far ahead - if you're smart, you're smart! Whatever you decide, you can always join extracurriculars with the kids your own age, ne? Like sports or music or drama! And then you'll always have that in common with them, even if your priorities change.
