[ Well, Kyle's been having a time of it back home. He's come back a little wiser, a lot stronger, and with giant ears. And fangs. And unwieldy black claws. They're actually making texting kind of hard, but it's better than video or audio right now. He's not letting this freak show go on display in front of the entire network. But he does need help from them, sssoooo... ]

[Aaand buffing seems done! Kyle now has some pretty normal looking nails, even if they are black. Jack is pretty damn good as a manicurist apparently.]

No. But it mattered to my foster parents what I am. It mattered to the sister I accidentally burned.

That's got nothing to do with what you look like or what you are. That's just inexperience with your abilities.

[ Kyle gave a soft chuckle, none too upset by Jack cockblocking his whining session. ]

[ He nods, humoring Jack, and takes his hands back. Whatever dust is left on them Kyle blows off and then reaches out to Jack. ]

I know you hate this, but you're just going to have to deal with it for a few seconds.

[ Kyle hugs the older man around the neck because it's the only thanks he can think of to give him for helping him. And he can almost imagine what it might have been like between him and Duncan if... all the bad things hadn't happened. It might have been like this. Maybe? ]

[Ugh, gross.

But to his credit, Jack takes the hug without complaint. Although also without much reaction too, he's just a warm, large object to embrace that doesn't really do much except lean slightly into it.

At least he waits until it's over before he chooses to ask:] Are we done?

Yep. [ Kyle gives him a tap on the shoulder when he pulls away, endeared by Jack's stony resolve. Only this man could make absolute neutrality charming somehow. Bastard. ] Thanks for the help, Jack. Seriously.

[ He doesn't mean to—In fact, he tries to keep it under wraps, but a sputtering laugh comes out of him. ]

Oh my god, are you going to defend my honor? [ For someone who tries so hard to be unlikable, Jack goes and says things like that, something a friend would say. But he knows it's not meant the same way. Still, though... ] No, I think I'd feel too bad for them if I did that.
