Sooo my boss asked me to make these flyers. I like the font and the colour of it, but I'm not sure about the background. Doing something like this is not my forte; in fact, the last time I made flyers it was for my prom back in highschool.

How are things on your end?

[Jacob hesitates a moment before responding.]

I had some... trouble with the mirages that are going around. It's under control now. But we still have no leads on what's causing the other images people are seeing.

At least my house is fixed up. Just in time for the next round of crap, right?

Right. I just hope the next round of crap doesn't cause any damage like that again.

[She was concerned to say the least.]

I'm glad to say that I've been doing fine lately. [A beat.] Maybe I shouldn't jinx myself by saying that.

[Jacob sighs a little.]

Yeah. Something you'll learn about being an imPort- you never say stuff like that. It's like tempting fate.

I think it could apply to my life back home too.

[The details of which may be for another time.]

What's it like where you're from?

Where I'm from? It's the future. At least, compared to here. I'm from the 22nd century. I was used to travelling in space before I became an imPort.

Space travel. Wow. [A pause.] Guess it's not something I can rule out considering where I am right now.

My sister's been to the future and travelled through space. I'm a little jealous of her.

Do you captain the ship?

I wish. No, I just ran the armory and provided backup on missions. It was a good ship.

[He sighs a little.]

I kind of miss being in space. I've been here on Earth for a few years now.

It must have been strange for you at first. Adjusting to living on Earth after being in space.

Do you know anyone from home here?

It wasn't Earth that was strange. It was the technology. This place is missing a lot of things I was used to.

[Jacob's face falls a little at the question. He lowers his eyes.]

Yeah. Two people. There used to be more of us.

Sorry to hear that about your friends. I probably shouldn't have asked.

[Especially after she saw how he reacted. Laurel felt bad.]

Are you okay?

I'm fine, Laurel. It's not your fault.

[He'll keep going. There's not much else he can do.]

But you can tell me what kinda flowers are right for someone's birthday?

Sure. I think that tulips would be a nice choice. Or daffodils, cause it's spring.

You got any recommendation for... I don't know, firey flowers?

...I got a theme to work with here.

We have some that reflect the colours of fire. If that's what you mean.

Like a Begonia or a Gerbera.

Flowers are a good place to start. Maybe you could throw in a nice dinner as well.

I do. Wouldn't say it's all been a pleasant experience.

That's one heck of a coincidence. I know a Dinah Laurel Lance back home. We're pretty close.

Dinah is actually my first name. [A beat.] I think I'm one of several versions of Dinah's that exist in the different universes.

The reason why I know that is because other people have told me that they know of a Dinah in their world.

[Chloe is perched somewhere outside her job, smoking on a break, when she sees this. And she can't help but respond.]

I don't know. Can you make it 'pop' more? It should probably pop. More. And make it really...you know...bold. [She gestures uselessly with her cigarette.] It has to be bold.

[She has a few graphic designer friends, it seems, and has heard their work horror stories. And she is clearly trying not to laugh.]

[She's going to take suggestions on board, even if they sounded a little ludicrous.]

Do you have any experience with this sort of thing?

[Laurel is going to ask Chloe anyway. Even if did look like she would burst into laughter at any given moment.]

[About five more seconds of straight face before yeah, she's snickering.]

I guess? I'm a painter. And a tattoo artist.

[Just gonna take it in her stride and not get annoyed by that.]

Now those two go hand in hand really. What kinds of things do you usually paint?

Lately, what people request for their tattoos. A lot of dragons. Some birds. And the normal boring shit like crosses for their wrists and little flowers.

[She shrugs.]

When I get my own chance I used to paint a lot of landscapes. But like, I'd make them not. Just what I was looking at.

I think if I got a tattoo it would have to mean something, you know? Not because it looked nice.

[A canary maybe. Black. Like her vigilante namesake.]

So you interpreted them in your own way? That's pretty cool. Have you ever painted any of the landscapes around here?

That's what everybody says for their first tattoo. [Chloe grins.] After that it tends to be a free for all. I have one lady, she's in here once a week getting something. Usually cause she's bored.

[She shrugs.]

A couple, back before the import fan expo thing. Figured I should have something to sell there. Locals will buy anything if an import made it.

The locals are really into import things. I remember being pestered for autographs and photos while walking down the street. It was so strange.

[It didn't happen so much now. Thank god.]

Nothing wrong with putting you and your work out there. That's part of the reason why I want to use my skills as a lawyer.

What kind of lawyer, if I might ask?

Prosecution lawyer. But before that, I specialised in housing law, people's rights. That kind of thing.

Are you looking to specialize in imPort issues here, or general practice?

[ He's mostly just curious, there seem to be less people in the legal profession here than one would expect, given the wide range of people drawn in. ]

General practice. I would help anyone who needed it, imPort or not.

Ah, I apologize; I didn't mean to imply you wouldn't. Simply that other imPorts which have offered public services in the past have occasionally favoured one clientele over the other.

No, it's okay. You don't need to say sorry. I never actually knew that about other imPorts and their businesses.

What I do know is the natives like imPort businesses, and seem to want to support them. Much like the imPorts themselves.
