[ Carl is kinda done with kind of nonsense. ]

 So is it safe to assume this whole month long thing with the mirages is the Porter's fault again? Or is it some kind of weird imPort thing again? Both?

[ In all honesty, Carl usually treats the Porter like it's a force of nature. Rainstorms happen, tornadoes wreck havoc, and springtime always bring allergy season. But considering the Porter is still in the hands of the government and not of imPorts, sometimes Carl will give serious thought as to what would life here be like if the Porter were in imPort hands. ]

It was related to an imPort, but if the Porter was involved, it'd be a whole new pattern from it.

 Do we even know which imPort? I haven't been paying much attention to the network lately, but I hadn't seen anything that's obvious.

Dorian Gray said the hallucinations were his fault - though, even after he was gone they kept going.

so maybe another imPort helped the hallucinations along?

That's a possibility, yes. I don't think the Porter would; the Porter does glitch from time to time, but to this extent sounds like it'd be something else.

had a glitch ever made an imPort powers go nuts tho? since it did gave me these powers i never had before.

I'm not sure. It could be an imPort's power being affected by a Porter's glitch.

usually its imports who have super strong powers,  and then lost control of them. if it's not a native trying to do something stupid, it's usually imports losing it.

well gee, thats comforting to know. love it when everyone around me is dangerous enough to make ppl come from other times to stab and bomb the general population??

would it be comforting for you to know that Porter is just as likely to mess the powers up if it wasn't an imPort doing it?

jk i know it wouldn't because it gave me a power that's so dangerous that it'll be my luck that the Porter or some other imPort screws it up and makes some mass destruction

[ Carl used to be extremely self conscious about this, but over the months of meta-humans arriving and some imPort making this mess, Carl came to the conclusion that his powers are dangerous, yes, but in the end, it might be better if people knew of his ability. ]

No imPort has claimed responsibility, and I know of no one with the power to create such a catastrophe. And I know of one learned scientist who has directly theorized that the Porter is responsible.

Until someone provides a proper explanation for this chaos, the Porter would seem to be the most likely answer.

Indeed it would be. More power than I have ever heard of a single imPort displaying, in fact.

But not more power than I have heard of the Porter displaying. That machine can do almost anything. And it operates most unpredictably.

when was the last big thing the Porter did? i can't keep track anymore.

[There is a pause before Dooku responds, because the fact is that most of the big things he's aware of have been caused by imPorts, or hostile natives targeting imPorts. The Porter itself rarely acts on such a large scale.]

We know very little about what the Porter does and does not do beyond importing and exporting us. But I would say the last significant event was its seizure by the Russians last year.

I have always found it noteworthy that the Porter was either unable to prevent LACKEY from being connected to it. Or that it allowed itself to be taken.

[Whatever consciousness is inside the Porter, either it was willing to have the Soviets take Cape Canaveral, or it couldn't stop them. Both options raise intriguing possibilities in the Count's mind.]

you implied that the Porter protected itself before?

That is what our government hosts claim according to the brochure they provide new arrivals. The Porter is dangerous, and so we must be kept away from it for our own safety. And there are stories of the Porter defending itself against meddling from the old universe- from the "City."

It is odd, however, that the Porter apparently never objects to being in government custody. Don't you agree?

For them, perhaps. I suspect a deeper meaning, however.

Regardless of the cause, we had to fight for our lives for days against heavy odds. We deserve proper answers as to why.

You mentioned up above powerful imports tend to cause damage if they lose control. Is there anything that triggers that lose of control?

[ Because external circumstances make a difference if the mirages are anything to go by. ]

i think it varies. I'm sure someone has probably kept a list of disasters caused by imPorts because I don't recall every last one. 

i know sometimes it can be triggered by another imPort, like one time when someone got sick by a virus and that virus mutated into something that made people lost control and become sick raging lunatics. it was bad enough until a dragon got sick and went on a real rampage and then it got worst.

It's alright. I'm not exactly looking for a comprehensive list.

[ Mostly because he already found one but he needed to know if he should be careful of something triggering his rather problematic powers. ]

I find it difficult to suspend my disbelief at times, but I'm sure that will wear off.

[ If only due to adjusting or he causes a catastrophe himself. Whichever comes first. ]

I was hoping those mirages were a one time deal. I don't like being dragged into conflict that's none of my business.

[ People have to pay him to care, aka therapy. ]

 people are gonna make you be part of a conflict whether you like it or not. For example, I don't want to have a fight with anyone, but when an ex-friend murders my dad and nobody thinks that is inherently wrong about that, that sort of makes "not wanting to start a fight" thing to be pretty impossible.

also the natives have some funny ideas of what imPorts like us should do, so you need to pick a side fast.

I've always been more of a spectator myself.

This all sounds very adversarial, so you'll have to forgive me if I find choosing a side arbitrary at best. I'd rather act with whatever suits my interests.
