[ The man on screen is wearing a bright white suit and white tie over a black shirt. He's framed the camera angle so his great big metal arms aren't visible, however. He's wearing sunglasses even though it's evening by now. His haircut is questionable. ]

As is often the case, when one wants to live a quiet life it's often interrupted. Since my arrival a few months ago, I've been occupied with the search for scientific progress. But it has become increasingly clear to me that I need to expand not only my scientific boundaries but my personal and political ones. Like it or not, we imPorts have found ourselves thrust into a world where our very existence has become politicized.

But as atoms bond to create something new, so too must we bond together to become stronger. To that end I feel the need to introduce myself.

[ He doesn't, and won't, outright say that this post is a response to Spider-Man making a list of his past and future crimes, but it is. He wasn't going to attempt to clear his name except a certain upcoming election has made him deem it prudent. ]

I am Dr. Otto Octavius.

I believe some of you may know me by a different name -- I understand the amount of alternate universes and timelines can become confusing for even those well-versed in such things.

[ He sighs, the picture of a man tired of having himself confused by an alternate version of himself. ]

Regardless, I am formally offering my scientific expertise if needed. I hope you all deign to give me a chance.

Prove that I am indeed capable of a different career path than he claims I have? Such as working towards the greater good? That is exactly what I'm trying to accomplish.

Great! Let's all hope you're not full of shit. It would really work out for everyone here, I think.

For example: what exactly is it that you think the imPort community needs from a man of science such as yourself, at this particular moment? Realistically speaking. Something's got to have caught your eye, with a speech like that.

When I was imPorted, I was lucky enough to be placed in De Chima. Each Porter city has its strengths and weaknesses, and that is a city that knows how to appreciate its science. With the amount of scientific minds among imPorts, if we work together with the people of this world we can improve technology and make discoveries leaps and bounds faster than we would otherwise be capable. Perhaps even one day become capable of making technology that would surpass even the Porter itself.

The best way to do this is within the system, with oversight, [ Say what you like about Otto Octavius, but manages to make keeping a straight face while saying that effortless. ] lest an incident like Tony Stark's last year cause mass mayhem again.

The electric city, huh. [Duo considered- yeah, every person of scientific importance was stationed around there, which also had the convenience of placing the other cities at a technological disadvantage, huh.] You play well with others, Doc?

[He has to breathe a laugh at the sheer audacity of thinking one could surpass the Porter. Guy'd get the memo soon enough.]

Stark's made a lot of mistakes, believe me when I say I've heard allllll about 'em. And met 'em. [He mutters under his breath. Like hell he'd believe a guy like this wasn't going to have some shady secret projects. Even good guys did that.] But I mean, if you're gonna talk within the system, gotta make sure the system's not broken first.

[doctopussy]

True... [ He pauses as if Duo made a point that he hadn't considered, making a show of mulling it over. ] But the best way to repair a broken system would be from within it -- otherwise it would be a revolution and those tend to become violent.

[ Said as if violence would be a terrible thing to consider. ]

[Duo grins behind his voice feed.] That's a surprisingly peaceful viewpoint. Not a fan of using force? I guess it's true that most thinkers- science types and the like- prefer to talk things out instead.

[Not really, actually, from his experience.] Same with politicians.

[doctopussy]

Politicians are elected to help solve our problems, in theory. Scientists are problem solvers as well, so perhaps the comparison is apt.

[ Solving problems, creating problems... same difference, right? ]

[Seems to be the common thread between the two, in any case.]

That's a nice way'a putting it. Yeah, I guess they're not so different after all.

[It's hard to tell if he's serious.] And no scientist has ever developed something that caused a problem before. [Oh, there we go.]

[doctopussy]

Which brings us neatly back to oversight, to stop over-enthusiastic import scientists from causing more problems than they solve. But in order to properly do so, you need someone who knows what they're doing.

And who's that, huhn. You?

[Do you enjoy that gratingly patronizing tone, Doc?] You never answered my question. Which one are you?

I am someone who will ensure this world benefits from my capabilities, which I wouldn't underestimate, my sardonic friend.

[ Otto is still smiling, his body language still pleasant, but his tone of voice is very pointed. ]

[Oh boy, he sure did miss dealing with these supervillain types! It feels more like home already.]
