[He wanted time to familiarize himself with this place. He needed to know if anyone else from the Inquisition had been brought across as well, and then to find them if they had. But first, he'd looked through the information they'd given him - the neat print on the strange white paper - and now, suddenly, Maxwell had a much more immediate, personal worry.

The video opens on his face; his expression a mixture of incredulity and concern.]

Hello. [It feels awkward, addressing nothing, but he pushes on.] My name is Maxwell and I have a question, and there doesn't seem to be anyone else to ask.

[The camera turns and fixes on a portion of the pages he'd been given. He points to a section, chases a sentence with his fingertip as he reads it aloud.] 'Bears will always find him.' [Then the feed swings back to him.]

Why would anyone want this? How many bears do you even have in this place, to hope to make this useful? And do they just-- roam about?[He glances away, as if one might have suddenly sneaked up on him, then back.] Are these abilities negotiable in any way?

[Duo, like many others, is also cracking up as he replies.]

[But more importantly...] --Huh! Don't suppose you might be an ancestor of mine?

[Not that it was possible, since it was an adoptive name. And uh, that said adopted father was also a priest. Thank goodness for voice functions; this guy doesn't need to see the collar, too.]

[That gives him serious pause. He pulls back slightly, brow furrowing as he blinks.]

Uh. No. No, I don't imagine so.

I have no children.

[And had been studiously avoiding it, as it were, at the time.]</small.

No? Ah well, just a funny coincidence, I guess. [Interesting. The guy seemed sort of put-off by that idea; wonder what that was about?]

Well, you can guess my name from that question- but to avoid confusion, you can call me Shinigami instead.

--If it makes you feel any better, that's not the worst power someone's been given in this place. Although it's certainly up there. Haha. What the hell...?

If that's not the worst, I hesitate to ask what is.

[His pity goes out them, the unknown soul.]

I'm not an oversharing kind of guy. [When it doesn't suit him.] Maybe you'll meet him someday.

[And he likes Manabu, so.]

Did you get anything ...useful to make up for it, at least?

...Possibly? [He glances at the pages again.] I hope so. There is one--

I don't suppose you know of any open, safe spaces, where I could test them?

...Explosive or something, huh?

This country is full of wide-open spaces. If you look at a local map you're bound to find some manner of forest or parkland where you could practice such things. Just make sure the property isn't protected against human intrusion- some places are reservations for wildlife. Don't think the local government would take kindly to blowing that land up.

Hopefully not, but just in case. It never hurts to take some extra precautions, in times like this.

Better safe than sorry is always a good stance!

If you think you might have trouble getting a handle on it, there's plenty of people here who are experienced in helping others master their powers. If it's not something that bothers you, you can always ask one of them for help.

Hopefully, however, the bears will be the worst of it, and it will turn out that they are actually very rare here anyway.
