[Text] Combined application of imPort powers: Theoretical result, Moon Colony

I'd like to foster discussion about the combined application of imPort powers. Aside from a motley of crime-fighting (or crime-causing, as the case may be) teams, I don't think that imPorts as a group give enough consideration to the combined application of powers. Each of us has a limited scope of powers, but when strategically combined with the powers of other imPorts, our abilities can be amplified exponentially.

I'd like to discuss this hypothesis and the practical applications of such efforts.

For example, if someone with power over metal or mechanical systems were to team up with someone with the power to manipulate electrical systems, someone with the ability to generate weather systems (specifically, to create atmosphere, if only on a small scale), and perhaps someone with the ability to teleport, could we not--with four people of moderate ability and a reasonable amount of technical knowledge--create a colony on the moon?

What other accomplishments might we be able to create? I've got the ability to manipulate electrical systems and the ability to amplify the magical fields and abilities of others, in addition to an enthusiast's knowledge of engineering and mechanical science. And I've got a friend who can teleport. So we're theoretically halfway to a moon colony already.

That's all good in theory, but you forget one really important thing in your hypothesis. Metal Girl and Mechanical Systems Girl and Weather Man may all have similar powers, but not all have similar ideals. That's going to be your downfall in trying to create any colony.

[ take it from her, the girl who's been tortured by grounders who share the same endgame but have a different perspective on the journey of how to get there. her and murphy have travelled a very similar road in that respect. but it's in interesting theory, and it's one she's experienced through history and personally back home. ]

That's part of the purpose of the hypothesis and of this post. To find out who would be interested in collaboration, what kind of collaboration, what goals they have, etc.

Honestly a higher priority than conflicting ideals would be getting at least one government to sign off on this project. The last thing I want is to be a moon colony at war with 2+ countries (I'm assuming that both the USA and the USSR would have some objections). Hence all still very much in the realm of hypotheticals.

Uh. I think we're pretty safe to assume that the moon is a cold rock and made neither from cheese or dragons.

We should try to fix the problems we have down here and explore expansion.

If we wait to fix all our problems here we'll never expand out from here--and what if we were to find a solution to some of our problems here somewhere out there in space? Imagine an library with many rooms, but I told you that you couldn't go and read the books in any other room until you finished reading the books in the main room first, even if you were more interested in the genres kept in distant rooms?

The moon colony idea is meant to be a hypothetical--although I am interested in it as a legitimate possibility, too. I'm also interested in seeing how combined applications of powers can work to fix the problems we have down here. My powers don't have all that many solo applications, but combined with someone else, I can provide amplification and control, in addition to technical knowledge.

Yes, when coordinated our efforts would be capable of a great many things. My own abilities are fairly similar to yours, though I lack anything pertaining to magic.

Though I'm curious: why the moon?

It's a hypothetical idea, though I am interested in the possibility, too. The moon seems like the most practical and accessible, in terms of first steps. In my world, we've already reached the moon and planted flags and left space shuttles and clutter.

In terms of a base or colony, the moon and Mars seem like the most practical options. The moon is closest, so that makes supply runs and rescue missions much easier, even without teleportation technology. If we were discussing terraforming, the moon becomes less practical, and other options seem more prominent.

If not for the moon, what do you think imPort coordinated efforts should be used toward?
