the doggo experiment (video)
[A dog appears on the camera. It's a fluffy white Samoyed, to be precise, looking happy as it usually does. A beat begins to play, and the dog appears to dance, flapping her ears to the music.
Or not. Doc pops up from behind her at the end, giving the pup a generous skritch. She wags her tail, making a familiar thump-thump against Doc's arm.]
That's my girl! Excellent work, Christmas.
[He finally addresses the camera himself with a sheepish smile and cough, still petting her.]
The moving process is nothing if not long and boring, and I thought we ought to have some fun. And while I'm on the subject---if any of you lack plans, I'll be hosting a barbecue next Saturday, from our new home on the outskirts of Heropa. I can assure you you'll be well fed. My partner's an excellent cook, and I'm not too terrible at side dishes if I may say so.
Hope to see you then!

[Please? He turns and flashes a familiar pleading look.]
[Private]
[Private]
Yes, absolutely. And perhaps dog beds as well, in the futile hope they'll be enticed to stay put.
[Private]
If we go for one large enough there'd hardly be any need.
[Private]
Yes, but they're awfully warm blankets.
[Christmas wiggles her nose onto his lap then, just to prove the point. He indulges her.]
And I still have to place my flamingo.
[Private]
[Private]
[Private]
[Private]
Yes, yes it is. Not to worry, I don't plan to bring people over often. It's fairly out of the way, just the way it should be, hm?
[Private]
...I didn't say you had to do that. The house is big enough that I can find something to occupy myself if I want privacy.
[Private]
[He rubs at his temple.]
I'm sorry. I've been getting a little stir-crazy here---I should probably take my mind off the logistics before I drag Kepler into my nonsense. It's almost done, at least.
[Private]
[Private]
I'm already preparing for the afterparty.
[Private]
[ Eyebrow raise, then a sigh. ]
I've reorganized the same few boxes several times, so I'm obviously not making progress. I'm going to find an open store now, I think.
[Private]
No, I meant just us---same as you, I think? My head's a little off.
But call me if you need anything. Or I could drop by, if you need hands to carry bags.
[Private]
...It's all a bit easier when someone can teleport, isn't it?
[Private]
Indeed it is. I'll see you soon, dear.
[Action - A Few Hours Later]
And he can't kill who he can't find.
So this is the best he can do, and it's much. A king size bed has been bought and delivered, some chests to go with, and they are situated in the new house now, ready for people to fill it. The place came with some furniture in the sun room and the kitchen. The rest will have to come from his and Doc's mismatched belongings -- what they can take from their residences anyway. He doesn't know how much of Doc's furniture came with the apartment, but all of his he bought himself.
He devotes the last hour of his journey to constructing new shelves and storage containers in the garage, since Doc means to make this his workshop, and he wants him to be able to simply unpack, not worry about making everything fit or creating a place. He's been in the one he uses now enough times to have some idea of what he needs and what he's missing.
When at last he appears in Doc's apartment, he looks a little tired, perhaps anxious with less now to do, but satisfied. ]
Making progress?
[Action - A Few Hours Later]
He's kneeling on the ground re-packing a box when Gold arrives. and looks up with a weary smile.]
Just about done. I needed to tire the dogs first, but most things are in place.
You?
[Action - A Few Hours Later]
I have some boxes moved over. The larger things I cannot bring on my own; movers will deliver them tomorrow, and once the flat is empty, I'll be converting it into my law office.
[ A little abashed. ]
So we'll have no sofa until tomorrow, but the place came with that little dining set and the stools at the island in the kitchen, and -- we have a bedroom and a sunroom. We'll find places to rest our bones yet.

I slept in a garage for 20 years, I believe I can handle a bed in a barely furnished house.
[He leans close, lightly resting his head on Gold's.]
I'll help with the office if you'd like. My garage never takes much of an effort, I've no need for a professional presentation.
no subject
[ It is going to take some refitting, and it was a pain just to convince the landlord to rezone the apartment, but law offices brought significant income in comparison to a resident, and Gold was willing to double his deposit on the spot. ]
Let's order in tonight and settle down. There'll be plenty to do tomorrow.
no subject
Have I mentioned lately how lost I'd be without you?
no subject
[ He dances back a step when the dogs scramble past him, rebalancing with his cane. ]
...With more ample room, I might add.
no subject
We're nearly there. Ah, I can almost feel the leg room now.
no subject
[ He really just wants a few hours of something mindless. ]
no subject
[He grins, feeling light and a little silly.]
Have you heard about the upcoming auditions? A bizarre program called Big Brother. People volunteer to live in a tiny space station, broadcast for the world to gawk at.
...I might have considered it for the briefest of moments.
no subject
[ We. That still feels weird. But for all his return ribbing, it shows on his face that it's all in good fun. Well, for Gold anyway. ]
no subject
But the wonders of space...I might watch through the television.
[There's a warm, fond expression.]
no subject
[ Doc you're going to be very disappointed in reality television. ]
As it is, you can't convince me this isn't some trumped up experiment to test untried technology on disposable people.
no subject
But I don't know if I can tear myself away.

[The reaction in having seen such a cute beginning scene to a network post was enough to get Nike to respond. It was clear from her own appearance in having splotches of paint over her white cap covering her hair and clothes that she was busy doing some redecorating. While the shots of his white, fluffy, pup may have caught her attention -- there was another reason for it.]
I don't know about that. I remember a certain someone being quite good at creating the ultimate sundae. I'll have to say you're selling yourself short there, gramps.
( video )
There will be sundaes, that I can promise. But you've yet to taste Gold's cooking---you won't be disappointed.
( video )
[Which may just get a sheepish smile out of her after admitting that little tidbit she remembered about the man they're talking about. It won't be long until she recovers from it though as she decides to add.]
Is that what attracted you to him? His cooking? [And not what she muttered her breath a few moments ago.]
( video )
Well, yes, that was part of it, but before that his quick wit and withdrawn nature appealed to me. He was an enigma, and a handsome one...
I can't wait to finally introduce you properly.
( video )
[Could they be somewhat similar to her sister's or were his tastes more refine since he was beyond an adult at this point. What kind of person would someone in his age and high intellect go after? It was a good topic to investigate.]
I can't wait neither. I wanna get a good feel on him. Gotta remind him that you have family here too. So no funny business will be tolerated unless you agree to it, of course!
[All said with some form of solemnly since she was showing a form of concern for her gramps while at the same time she understood he could look after himself just fine. It was just a
not solow key form of proving he had someone to rely on.]Re: ( video )
Of course you will, dear. I'm certain everything will be fine.
And I'm very glad to have you.

[While she has very little experience in the matter, she likes to think she has a good grasp on the idea of relationships and judging a person on their actions and demeanors too.
Just like she can tell that Doc was being sincere with his words. He wasn't buttering her up for the sake of it nor acting polite neither. She can't help smile happily at the compliment.]
The feeling is mutual. I'm really happy to have you in my life too. It's made all the difference, you know.
no subject
As you have. I'm very glad to hear it...and I'm sure we'll be catching up very soon, hm?
