It seems that having small, sentient companions is rather common here on Earth. Can someone explain why so many people seem to want and/or have them? Especially when they are incredibly small and seem to serve no purpose in terms of protection or strength?

That's a large creature you've got there. That - that is one of Earth's dogs? I've heard there are many different kinds here.

He's mostly dog. There's a bit of wolf in there, as well, somewhere on the Czech side - he's a crossbreed, ovcharka and vlcak, he's from my stepmother's ovcharka's only breeding before he got the snip.

I'm .. afraid I don't know what many of those words mean. Czech? Ov-- ovchakara? I'll stop myself from attempting to repeat anything else, so I don't risk offending you.
