when they say > never meet your heroes, what the hell do they actually mean?

i feel like there are 500 sitcoms or movie clips or whatever where there's like, somebody all knowingly shaking their head, and saying "this is what they mean" to some kid who just got his/her soul crushed by his/her hero, trail off dot dot dot. sometimes it's because the > hero was a dick, sure, but other times it's because > worshiper is legit annoying, maybe creepy, maybe just had too much paunch overflowing their jeans to make it as a starfucker, right? ??

are they just saying, don't tell the mother of dragons all the butt stuff fiction was pre-psych rehab? or after you write this semi-autobiographical best-seller about that one time heisenberg murdered you and everybody you knew, maybe don't call him up for coffee? be a lawyer, abandon all idols and ideals. or a famous singer. because you can't have heroes when you, your mic, and the narcissism taking up the whole pedestal.

come on. half of you get advertised as > heroes. what is up. not like $50/a pop for autographs is a deal you'd turn down, right?

$50/a pop autographs is not for heroes - it's for celebrities. which we all kind of are, for better or worse

meet your heroes, then watch as they become human instead of heroes. woe about it, possibly lose interest, or else decide you like them better as people than as ideals.

mother of dragons????????????????????????????
this is the only truly important part of this post

consider different meds. pretty sure reality warping is not exactly a side-effect recommended for trying to maintain sobriety. your doc's not crane, right?

[Attached is a picture of the tiny dragon Kavinsky gave him, who Newt calls Zippo.]

Look familiar? of course i like dragons

Familiarity breeds contempt?
Anthony Holden is commonly associated with the whole never meet your heroes adage and the context was that once he met his hero he learned more about his hero than he ever wanted to know
What he learned complicated his admiration and he was never able to see his hero the same way again

Comparable I imagine.
I don't think they make you read Of Presidents, Prime Ministers, and Princes: A Decade in Fleet Street at the high school level.
But he is a writer.

Chilton kinda scares me, but I've heard a lot of people like him.

Both. Both are good.

Husband tries to keep me from dying. he's had enough of that.

i believe in "dont meet your heroes," but mostly when your heroes are lying psychopaths who kill you when you find out their secrets.

I'm simply interested in hearing your personal perspective. You deserve a platform just as much as anyone else.

Easy. Don't meet the people you consider heroes because they're going to disappoint you. It's inevitable.

They mean your heroes will disappoint you. Life can be like those clips or worse. The same people that save lives take them.

Be careful writing anything about your life or other people's lives.

I wouldn't trust someone who wanted money for my autograph. But I'm not a hero.
