001 [ video ]
—and, got it!
[When the feed cuts in, the first thing anyone might see is—a mop of brown curls. Wow. So exciting. After a moment, a young boy's face comes into view, blue eyes alive with an excited curiosity. Some more adjustments, and the background finally makes itself clear: the kid's in a park somewhere in De Chima, and he happens to be dressed like a Ghostbuster like it's Halloween or something.]
Hey, so, I've got a few questions. A lot of questions, actually. [So many curiosity doors, so little time.] To start with: anyone else here from Hawkins? [He hopes so. He—really doesn't want to be alone.] Man, Mr. Clarke'd have a field day.
[Eat your heart out, Hugh Everett.]
Secondly, has anyone started up an imPort A/V club yet? I'm a little curious about how it would work, especially since people from all kinds of different worlds with varying levels of technology keep getting pulled in. I think it'd be a great opportunity for us to learn about technology from other worlds, and from this one too. I know I'd love a crash course in how to use this—they called it a phone, but it doesn't really look like one. [Phones looked very different where he's from, and they definitely can't do half the stuff this device can.
Something warbles shrilly nearby. Dustin's head turns, and he bends down a little out of frame to talk to something just off-screen:] Shh, Dart. I'll feed you nougat later, just gotta finish this up first. [Turning back to the comm:] Also: Is there a species on your world that, appearance-wise, might be comparable to a pollywog but isn't? Like, pollywogs are cold-blooded and need heat and light, for example, but that particular species actively avoids heat? What kind of food would you feed it? [Beat.] I'm asking for a friend.

Leia tilts her head, noticing how he fixes himself. Oh, it's that Fisher name again. ]
Please, call me Leia. And that's good to hear, that you have your friends here with you. That should make things easier in the long run.

[This is method acting, right? Because if so then Dustin's really excited to learn more.]
Thanks, Ms. Fi—Leia, I mean. Did you see them, are they okay?
no subject
I've only seen your friends through the network. They look well. They're safe.
no subject
[He offers this sage piece of advice up with the most innocuous tone of confusion.]
Oh—okay, good. Do you know where they are? I need to go find them.
no subject
I'm sorry, you'll have to speak up. What was your name again?
I don't know their exact location. You can look them up in the directory and, if they haven't contacted you first already, you can speak with them that way.

[The Princess slips in out of habit. Okay, sure, he's talking to Carrie Fisher in-character as Princess Leia. Fine. He can roll with that.]
Yeah, they just answered. [A sigh of relief.] They're okay. But, hey, is it common to find out that your friends just came from the future?
no subject
[ She smiles then, how could she not, but at the mention of future things it slips. ]
Quite common. Neither of us have any control over who the Porter brings in. Could be friends or family from the future.

Could we even get home at all? Or are we just stuck here once we're here?
no subject
I've heard of others leaving the directory. One can only assume that they returned home.
[ Or they're, you know, dead. No need to bring that up to this sweet summer child. ]
no subject
[Aw. Sweet summer child.]
"One can only assume"? How do you know for sure if they went home, then?
no subject
[ Too much past and future mixing together. It's no good already as is. ]
I don't. But it's better than thinking about the other possibility.
