[The transmission opens on the young woman sitting in front of her computer. For a moment she is quiet, fumbling a bit with her camera as she finds a suitable set up. She had never handled a camera before, it had not been important for her to learn anything about technology before, and she hoped that it wasn't too obvious. Her goals in her missions had always been to blend in as much as possible. And the inability to could mean her life. But this wasn't a mission. She didn't think so. And she wanted to blend. She wanted to connect. And this was a start.]

Hello, My name is Kei...

[Her voice finally comes through and she can't help but smile as she introduces herself, warmth swelling in her chest. After a second to regain herself she speaks again.]

I've heard this is a well used platform for people who are searching for answers. Asking questions. And I can tell you that I've had a lot on my mind since I've arrived. If you could bear with me, I have a something I'd like to ask for advice about.

[She falls silent, rubbing her lips with the tip of her fingers as she searches for her words.]

What is it like? To shop for clothes? To shop in general really... It's just that I've never been able to dress myself. Well, not dress myself, of course I dress myself!

[The woman laughs, adjusting the loosely fitting t-shirt hanging on her shoulders.]

I've just become so used to a strict uniform. I'd really like to have an outside opinion on what and where and...well... how... to get clothing. Thank you for your time!

Thrift stores have the best prices for clothes. The government gives everybody here a little cash to help 'em get by, so that handles payment, but as for picking out things... I'm not an expert, but maybe just try some stuff on, see what's comfortable, and buy what you like. You can always search the internet for ideas on styles and substyles and all that. We used to do that in my high school Drama Club back home to make sure we had the right outfits for plays and things like that.

[She responds immediately without thinking, like she is soaking in his words. But then she starts again, almost timidly.]

What is a 'Thrift Store'...?

I've never used the internet before. Is that strange? It honestly took me longer than I would have liked to even get this camera on.

[The sight of the well dressed woman seems to lighten something in Kei's eyes. She had yet to come across any interesting women since her arrival. And while the thought crosses her mind that finding company with a Stranger could be dangerous. Her desire to seek out another female's company was even more enticing.]


I've been placed in Heropa. It sounds like this is where things begin. Is that familiar to you?

[ Ash needs practice using the camera as well. It's so much easier to just connect mentally and use text or voice. But this time, he'll make the effort. ]

I don't really know. I've always just worn the clothes that were on hand.

[ The real Ash's clothes. He frowns slightly, then his face returns to a curious smile as he gestures to the suit he's currently wearing. ]

This was a gift; I got a few of them, but I'm not sure they're really my style.

[She laughs a bit, taking note of the change in expression on the man's face. She keeps her smile firm, tilting her head curiously as he continues.]

I think it looks just fine on you. But it is a bit formal.

[She tugs her shirt with a giggle.]

Maybe something more relaxed like this might suit you better.

[His voice is flat - cool, calm, collected as always, low and even, just as she'd remember it, he's sure. He doesn't let it waver or crack.

[Off-screen, his hands are shaking.

[There's a lot he could say next - a lot that he probably should say next, starting with "I'm sorry". But he doesn't. Instead, he just says:]

[Kei's eyes blink rapidly as her brain attempts to understand what is happening in front of her. Hearing a voice without seeing his lips move. Is this a trick? A technical phenomenon?

The girl shakes her head in reply finally, offering a light smile.]

No, to be perfectly honest.

[She isn't sure how to explain beyond that, her eyes drop to her lap momentarily.]

I grew up without having much interaction with the world outside my home. What I had was always given to me with no explanation and no choice.

You should probably get secondhand clothes first, just to start out. They're pretty cheap, which is good if you're a new imPort and all the cash you have is pretty much useless, and I used to work at a store that sold them. I'll send along the address in a minute.

[She pauses, drums her fingers on the tabletop. Her clothes are a little old, a sensible beige ensemble topped by a striped blue-and-black scarf. They don't look secondhand.]

Shopping's fun until you have to pay and you realize you went way over your budget. [An upward quirk of her lips.] At least if you shop secondhand you don't run into awkward moments at the cashier as often.

I understand that through time it was a cultural norm to separate the two. But I was not raised to see the need to dress any differently than a man.

[She smiled at the sight of the young girl. Though a tug of apprehension tugged in her chest to meet anyone. She knew better than to underestimate anyone. Especially young women.]

I'd appreciate that a lot. I really don't know my way around anything.

I'll admit, shopping I don't know a great deal about when it comes to clothes, though I've looked some. But dressing well I know a great deal about, if you'd ever like some advice on that front. If you're mostly used to a uniform, you have a great deal to discover.

I appreciate the advice in advance. I would still like to dress well outside of a uniform. I wasn't dressed to sharply, but I'd like that.
