The year is 2018 and the Red Scare is alive and kicking. Worlds collide as we're brought here under mysterious circumstances, given gifts we couldn't dream to prepare for. Trapped without hope for escape we ask ourselves - will we ever see our homes again? Our loved ones? Will we embrace our new lives and is it a question of when - not if - that these powers turn on us? So many questions, and yet the biggest mystery is something else entirely.

The Russia stuff is like a blast from the past. The Cold War has been over for decades where I'm from.

It was losing steam where I'm from. Or when I'm from—before I got here, it was 1989.
Welcome to bizarro America. Time isn't real and nothing you do here matters when you get back home, and there's a high chance you will.

[ He's having A Moment where he realises that if they'd come in from the same year, she'd be around the same age as his dad. Wow. ]
Anyone do any math on how long people stay, on average? Any idea at all what to expect, or do we just hold on for the ride and hope for the best?

[She takes a moment to grieve, a little, because from her perspective, this is the only way she'll live to see 2018.]
I know there's a few people who've been here for one year or more—my boss's been around for four years, I believe. But other imPorts only stick around for as long as a couple months before they disappear.
The problem is that no one's sure just how long they're going to be here until they're not, it's not like we get any warning before we're pushed out.

Who's your boss?

You could make a novel out of it. I'm not too sure on the quality, but hey, people here will buy anything that features imPorts in some way.

Hey, if it can get me out of this waiter job I don't mind selling out for mass market appeal.

All that should get you up to speed. I've been here since May last year, so I don't have as much to offer, but if you need any more information on the cactus mess onwards, I can help.
You could just quit the waiter job. You're not obligated to stay there.

I could, but I also like being able to pay for stuff. Weird how those two things seem to be connected.

If it helps, and just in case you get sick enough of working in food service that you do quit, there's a shop in De Chima that's looking for a new clerk. It's called the Second Time Around Vintage Clothing Shoppe, it's a pretty swanky place to work.
It's retail, though, so expect some customers to be less than bright, most of the time.

Where do you work?

Now? At Re:Café. The guy whose notes I sent you is my current boss, and the café's for both imPorts and natives. Stop by any time, I'll sneak you a cookie.
