Some of you might have enjoyed the riddle page of the Heropan Post before. I've been architect of it for a few months now. You're welcome!

Yet here I come to you with a riddle that I can't ever seem to quite figure out by myself.

[The camera is turned around again and he can be seen slowly drawing a heart in the air with two fingers as he talks.]

I'm worthless to one but priceless to two. What am I?

I am love.

Wait! That's not the riddle that leaves me puzzled. It goes deeper. One of the few questions where I'm not certain of the answer yet. Whenever I think I know, I get thrown for a loop.

So.

What is love?

Or, should I ask, what is it to you?

And how many people have you hurt along the way? How many have hurt you?

What sort of a question is that? The person who keeps a tally of things like that is a person consumed by their own anger and hatred and grief. That sort of thing causes nothing but destruction - of the self, and of others.

I don't know about that. People might keep tally for organisational purpose, to keep track of their moral alignment or any other reason.

Back home there's an assassin who allegedly literally scars himself with tally marks for every kill.

So a person consumed by anger and hatred or a person so disconnected from all feeling that they kill in cold blood.

Neither one of those extremes is healthy.

Perhaps not, but at least one of them seems very content.

I don't think remembering well and keeping score is an act that's evil in itself.

Not in itself, but it's unhealthy and can only lead to unproductive thoughts and actions.

I'm not saying we should try to forget whenever bad things happen to us, but keeping score is not how to deal with it.

I can't just forget bad things.

Actually, I can't forget anything.

Like I said, don't forget. Acknowledge, and move on.

Seems like kind of an arbitrary distinction to make, but fair enough. At least you won't hold a grudge if I ever screw you over.

Hardly arbitrary, if one leads directly to the creation of "grudges" - which to me, sounds like "revenge". And the other doesn't.

Where do you stand on the concept of consequences?

Everything we do has consequences, whether we can foresee them or not.

Is that so different from actions resulting in retaliation?

Revenge.

Uh, yeah they're different. If you don't understand the difference between "justice" and "revenge" then I don't know what to tell you, buddy.

I simply feel that the two are not mutually exclusive.
