I've been here for a few days, and I have some questions.

   1. Is anyone else here a mutant?
   2. Can imPorts join law enforcement or military? Someone mentioned RISE to me, but I'm not clear on the details.
   3. Failing that, are there consequences for vigilantism? I've noticed it seems to be rampant here.
   4. I could use some help testing a new ability I was given. It involves reading your mind. Just so you're clear on what you're volunteering for.

[ She seriously can't help some amount of a soft spot for other mutants, given protecting the underdog is essentially why she'd become a Judge, and in her world, mutants are always underdogs. They're a phenomenon unique to the type of slum she'd grown up in, bordering the Cursed Earth. Anderson had been bemused and intrigued and a little hesitant to get her hopes up regarding how normal and almost commonplace they seem here. Which is the real question she wants to ask. ]

What happened to them? Did the Porter send them home? It seems like no one really cares here if you're a mutant.

To answer your first question...all imPorts have Power-granted abilities. However, some of us had special abilities back home too, myself included. Some might use the word "mutants" to describe us -- depends on your definition, honestly.

As for your second question, yes...so long as you're registered, at any rate. RISE is a government-sponsored team of imPorts that work with the military and local law enforcement to apprehend dangerous imPorts.

Vigilantism could easily result in your arrest. If you plan on catching criminals, you might want to consider saving yourself the headache and register first.

Also, "reading your mind" could entail a lot of things. If you don't mind my asking, is it a passive or active ability?

Where I'm from, only mutants have special abilities. I had mine before I came here. The new one isn't too far off. My psychic abilities are active, not passive, but it doesn't strain me to use them.

2. Yeah, definitely. There's a couple of imPorts on the force even here, and I know one guy's in the military right now. (RISE is distinctly different. It's more like an imPort-exclusive force that assists the police when imPorts get involved in major crimes, as far as I've seen.)

Registered imPorts are citizens. I don't think there are any jobs that are off-limits.

I'm not sure registered imPorts can be vigilantes. [In the eyes of the government, at least.]

I assume you're asking about a law enforcement position because it is what you did before arriving here. Most people seek the same vocational work they had before arriving here.

I'll be joining RISE, and registering, but I'm not sure about the rest of my prospects yet. I guess we'll see. Doesn't seem much point in busting my ass to put people away for two months.
