[A broad-shouldered man in tight, armored robes and a smooth, eyeless helmet appears. He wears no identifying marks, beyond an unadorned lightsaber on his belt. His filtered voice is almost incongruously mild and unemotional.]

I am Darth Jadus, former Lord of the Sith Empire's Dark Council. To the Jedi and Republic allies of this world: I bring with me no desire to continue the ancient war. The Emperor's obsessions do not and have never compelled me.

I seek instead a better philosophy. One which does not scorn the powerless and the alien. A Dark Side which understands that the simplistic passions of destruction are ephemeral, and they poorly serve those who strive for freedom.

And to Darth Marr: Heed my words. I will not allow the war to touch this planet.

[ Well this is... Interesting. Lando gets the feeling that the "Republic" he mentioned isn't the one Lando immediately thinks of. ]

How former, exactly?

I willingly gave up my councilorship when the war began anew. I have meditated in seclusion for seven years.

[ Lando looks appropriately impressed. ]

That's commitment.

[Intriguing. The Count responds through text, at least at first, to better conceal his own (weak) position.]

You are from the time of the Sith Empire?

[jadus]

There is nothing to which I am more committed.

And you. Do you seek war here? Or have you left it behind?

[bespin]

[ Lando pauses, to think on whether he's ever been so committed to anything that he would seclude himself for seven years for it.

He doesn't think so. Maybe it's a Force thing. ]

You'll find that the majority of those of us ImPorts from our galaxy are of the opinion that our wars-- whatever wars they may be-- are best left there.

'Sith Empire's Dark Council'. Quite the mouthful. What time frame are you from?

[jadus]

They did so love their monuments to themselves. They sought to define me as well. I intend to make no further concessions to them.

The Emperor Vitiate lies dead, never to rise again. But the war he mandated against the Republic will begin once more. This is inevitable.

But my visions do not speak often of the far future. I assume that the Empire will fall without guidance. Am I correct?

Yes, I'm aware. Palpatine had his very own constructed for some time.

[ Darth Jadus. She can't say she's familiar with that name. Darth Vader, Darth Maul, those are different. Leia switches the connection to a more private one between them. ]

The Empire has fallen. Three months ago. Emperor Palpatine is no more. I'm to assume that this Emperor Vitiate is from a time far in the past? Before the Clone Wars?

[Marr is unimpressed with this, Jadus.]

You have isolated yourself too far. I have had a larger concern than war with the Jedi for some time.

[There's a long pause, and then Marr continues with a very frosty tone]

A concern which you knew, and fled from.

[jadus]

I approve. This planet's own turmoil requires no further complications, and I will assist in their resolution.

I must assume the same. The Clone Wars are unfamiliar to me. Perhaps I will see them one day.

Though I am pleased to discover Vitiate goes unremembered. He sought nothing short of galactic cataclysm for his own ends. His beliefs and deeds are best forgotten.

[bespin]

That's... hospitable of you.

[ More so than he would have expected from a Sith, but from the looks of things, the ancient Sith were more varied than the modern variety. Still, Lando's been exposed to the Dark nature of Sith artifacts before. He isn't about to trust any Sith, regardless of their time point. ]

Circumstances required I remove myself from the field. I made my own preparations to halt the Emperor's plans.

I never felt compelled to follow your frontline approach. A more vital conflict would not change that.

[jadus]

You do not trust my intentions. A regrettable, but intelligent response.

I will prove to be different from the Sith you know.

[A veeery long pause.]

The flexible approach is sometimes necessary. I came to this realization too late.

[That's the closest you're ever getting to a compliment from him.]

You and I will speak more in person, Jadus.

[It is not an option.]

You would have to, for me to trust you.

[ Plain and simple. The Sith have brought Lando nothing but pain. Even putting aside what he's heard about Palpatine, the Sith cost him Korin Pers. They cost him priceless treasures. More importantly, they cost him the mind of his best friend. ]

Perhaps.

[He won't gloat. That admission was unexpected from one so martial. Flexible indeed.]

We will.

[Darth? that gets her attention instantly. WTF. She takes in the words said and notes that there re two of them? But it was that last part that got her attention most. Will not allow the war to touch this planet.]

[She replies with Fulcrum, unseen and only in text, for now.]

In my time those who took the title of 'Darth' were to be watched. If you are a former Sith Lord, wouldn't you lose the other title as well?

That aside, I want to agree with you about the war. Or Wars, in this case. They shouldn't be brought to this planet.

As Dark Lords should be. Most concern themselves with petty, bloody politics and conflict. The waste is unimaginable. And, I believe, deliberate. The Emperor fostered a broken Order for his own ends.

To that end, the Lords fought for the vacant Council seat after my departure, but I am still Sith. They could not change this.

[ How does the calendar work, she wonders. ]

Perhaps. I could give you the exact dates, I'm just unsure on what calendar you use.

[ Past, future, it's likely to be a mess. ]

Seems Palpatine and Vitiate had much in common.

Last I heard there was no Sith Empire anymore.

It was doomed to fall. Whether by the Emperor's own hand, or other foes.

You speak of Palpatine, then.
