How do you know if someone is a doppleganger, if you aren't sure you've met the original?

Do they have any particular characteristics? Can they access this network?

I don't think there's a way to tell. And in the end, who's to say who the "original one" is to begin with?

I have no idea, I just got here so it's kind of walking in and noticing everything is on fire.

I've had experiences with doppelgangers and I can tell you it never ends well for at least one of them. Why so many questions on them?

I arrived here with a long-time friend of mine. Or I thought it was him. It's been 10 years and he's changed a great deal. Perhaps it's just the money that's gone to his head, but I was wondering if there was a way to know for sure.

My only advice would be to go with your gut instinct. If it feels wrong, or off, then it usually is. There's subconscious signs that give it away that you can sometimes pick up on without realizing. Most of the doppelgangers I know are from parallel worlds, but I think the same can be applied here.

I've never been fond of intuition, but I've certainly been disquieted by some of the behaviors he's displayed. When this resolves, it'll be clear, though I'm not sure which conclusion would be better.

Definitely a tricky situation to be in and as random as intuition can seem, there's a reason why we have it. If anything, you'll have some great things to hold over their head when they come to their senses?

I suppose. He'd best hope he does come to his senses, or there will be a very long arguement in his near future.

No problem, it's always going to be tricky figuring out but I suppose that's why they're doppelgangers and not "almost clones" or something like that.

No, unless you count identical twins, but certainly nothing more sinister in those terms. Bit of an awful time to arrive, but then it's always seemed as though there's always something going on here. It's fairly exhausting.

Now imagine if those twins had doppelgangers. I wonder if the twins would be able to recognize the other twins as not theirs? And it's a horrible time to arrive but as you say it's nothing new. I've been here before, but I won't lie, I went home for a few days and it's been a very long time that's passed here.

Difficult to say. I imagine it would largely depend on the parameters of those dopplegangers; if they have the same memories, lexicon, and such.

It's interesting you mention the time difference, however. It's quite the opposite in my case. I went home for 10 years, but it's only been a few months here. That's always struck me as odd.

Imagine being a twin and finding out your sibling was replaced by a doppelganger years ago. If that's not a film premise then I think someone missed the boat.

This place is enough to give some serious time line jet lag. I would love to know how they do it.

My only reigning theory on the time inconsistencies are differing rates at which time flows in a given dimension. Difficult to prove without the ability to measure side by side however.

You sound like you know your stuff when it comes to working out time. Guess it makes sense, though you're right in that it can only be proven by what people say. Only time we'd know for sure is if two people from the same world both went home at the same time; then we could see what time they experienced when they got back.

Not necessarily. I did know a couple that disappeared and arrived at the same time when I was tracking these things but it didn't answer much. A much larger pool of data would help, but even then there could be inconsistencies.

I'm a scientist of sorts with an understanding of theoretical physics as cohesive as one can claim to have without involving superpowers or alien technology.
