[ The video transmission begins innocuously, with the camera pointed at grass. In the distance, birds chirp. Insects buzz. But otherwise the unavoidable silence reigns supreme, with the climax of the video occurring a good five seconds in when the person holding the communicator aloft takes a single step forward. Then, another three seconds later, it goes dark.

Who has two one thumbs and sucks with technology? This guy. But he does get his act together long enough for a text instead a good half an hour later. ]

I committed myself to exploring my world at my own expense, to learn and grow. I thought I could carry on here and apply new lessons learned to my home.

Since then, I've discovered Bwitter and "super"marts, which have changed my mind. What about this place inspires people and motivates them?

i guess if anything motivates me it's how good we have it
you never have to worry about having enough food or water
everywhere has a/c and running water and electricity
everything is set up so you can do anything you want

Different people are going to have different answers to that one. For some, that might be the answer: being allowed to have a different take.

Me, I'm motivated to protect people. That's what gets me going. That isn't exactly unique to this place, though.

So is protecting others. It doesn't matter if they're your people or not?

It doesn't. My job is to keep as many people safe as possible. Doesn't matter if I know them personally.

But speaking of inspiring: imPorts helped put a base on the Moon not too long ago. You can visit it, if you want. It's a symbol of what we can accomplish here.

There's quite a lot, actually! It's so vastly different from my own homeland, that it'd be hard to pick just one or two.
I think the supermarket is quite inspired, really...instead of having to visit several different vendors for your supplies, you can go to one place and find it all! And some of the meals even come in ONE box!
The vast differences in places is remarkable, too...You can at one moment, be standing in a dense city where the buildings are made of metal that climb to the sky...and then wander some miles away and be at the foot of beautiful, rolling hills and trees just budding and blooming for spring! Society here still spares their growth to keep some beautiful places nearby...I think it's wonderful.

it's just that this is home for a lot of people, and since i don't know how to leave, i figure what i can do is try to help people here during that time
i think...i think if i can help even one person feel just a little bit safer in their daily lives by the time i get to go back, it'll have been worth being here

and it's not about the number of people, or a comparison between here and there
japan is my home. i want to go back
but i can't right now, and there's no point thinking about what i COULD be doing if i was at home
so i want to use my time here to become stronger and get more experience so i can be a better hero when i go home
and if i can help the people here during that time, then i won't regret it
