Multiple worlds and parallel universes are always going to be a thing, if we're here or back home they'll always exist. So what do you do when someone turns up from a parallel world and claims theirs is number 1? Would you let them have it or would you fight them over such a silly thing?

And before anyone asks, everyone just calls mine Earth-2.

It would seem to me that everyone would assume their own world is #1.

You'd think that. I think a lot of people in my own world would make a face at being called Earth-2.

I would make a face too. It sounds weird.

Luckily not many people know about it or they'd be insisting on being just Earth or Earth-1. Can't say the same for all the other Earths out there though.

So how is yours different from... have you been to other Earths?

I'd let them have it. There's nothing left for me on my world.

I wouldn't be able to do anything. I'd just go back to being dead.

There's absolutely no significance to the numeric ordering of these worlds except perhaps the sequence in which some one entity or group encounters them. The New World was no Newer or Older than the Old World and yet here we are.

In theory, weren't all worlds/universes coming into being at the same time and existing concurrently? So none of these worlds has any superiority in terms of 1st existence or original versions of the beings living on it. There are just many many versions of the same recycled, reordered cast of characters.

But yeah, I'd fight them on it.

Maybe not on paper, but I think you would find that the moment you bring numbers into the whole thing people start getting protective over things.

They may be at the same time but some of them are a bit different, so I think that has an impact somewhere.

People from a parallel world were here before I was, so I don't know how they differentiated from me and my friend's world (besides, well, the world differences), but I'd like to think we'd name ours after vehicles.

Are we talking cars or other kinds of vehicles, because Earth-Toyota doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

I don't know what a Toyota is, but I'm talking infantry fighting vehicles, like tanks. Mako timeline and Hammerhead timeline. (Not Earth-whatever because we work in space and don't actually spend a lot of time on Earth.)

I'm not familiar with those but I can say they sound infinitely better. Can't say I know many people from space. What's that like?

They're how our squads were named on one all in mission, haha. It's normal to me, but in comparison to this place, there's just so much more out there. Planets, species, people, cultures. What's being Earthborn like?

I don't see why there should be any importance to such a thing. This is Earth 19-TS-59, for example.

it does. I don't think it matters to the natives here, though. To them, this is just "Earth".

Maybe the natives just haven't heard of the numbering situation.

They might have something to say about it.

It'd be rather interesting to see you all fighting for a numeric position yourselves came up with.

There is so much people fight over even the most simple of things. It's something humans enjoy doing, isn't it?

They would, but I don't think most would consider that. Just the idea would be enough.

I suppose... that may be a little unsettling.

Assigning meaningful designations to everyone's place of origin is more trouble than it's worth.

It only has meaning in context to those who are from the same place, or know people who share a common origin.

They have to be kept separate somehow.

How would anyone know if they were headed to a bad version of Earth?

A moot point for the moment, as no one has found a way to voluntarily leave here.

But in dimensions where such travel is possible, it has merit. Sequential designations seem a poor choice.

Maybe. But then that's saying the more technologically advanced would be the higher up on the number chain if you're going by who contacted first.

Fair enough. Science and multidimensional porters are a little beyond me, anyway, let alone figuring out what Earth gets called what.

[Earth-2 sounds like a vaguely familiar designation, from some of the chatter around the Infinite Crisis, but--anyway. Ignoring Gemini because she doesn't want to deal with that...]
