[Have a spider-child on video! He's checking the video to see if it's working at first, so his face is huge in the video and gives him a buglike appearance, but then he backs away a little and...well, he still looks buglike, but at this distance it's more because of his costume and not his proximity to the camera. He awkwardly lifts one hand up to wave briefly at the camera. Play it cool, Miles. Cool and casual.]

Hi. Uh, I don't really know if introductions are, like, standard protocol here or something, but guess it can't hurt to make one anyway, right? So...I'm Spider-Man.

[His comm ID reads "Miles Morales", though.]

I just showed up here a few hours ago. I'm not sure if it counts when it's in a different world, but for what it's worth, this is my first time in Virginia. Or Florida--especially with all the beaches. I gotta say--it's pretty cool so far. [Y'know, as far as interdimensional kidnapping goes.

Then he falls silent and looks down a little, shifting uncomfortably from foot to foot.]

Also, um. Does anybody know how to...get sand out of their spandex?

I don't think so. I mean, no one's stopped me from doing it because I'm too young.

[Captain America tried, once, but Miles doesn't think that counts, since Cap later invited him to be an Ultimate.]

Not that I completely understand this superhero business, but shouldn't you be in school?

I do go to school. And then I do hero stuff when I'm not in class.

... you're serious, aren't you?

...yeah? Should I not be?

Haven't you considered how dangerous a job it is? I'm not superhero, but it's definitely not a job just anyone can do...

Well, yeah.

[It didn't take him a year to actually get in the superhero game because he was lazy, after all.]

...I've got powers. So if I can stop people from getting hurt with them, then I should. It's--yeah, it's dangerous, but that's what the powers are for.

It's like...a responsibility, to help keep people safe. With great power comes great responsibility.

[ There's a long pause on Gil's end.

He feels he may have heard that somewhere before. With great power... ]

You also need to take care of yourself.

[ You can't help anyone if you aren't watching out for yourself after all. ]

I know. But that's the good thing about the powers--it means I can look out for myself in ways that other people can't. Doesn't that make me qualified to do this?

How was I supposed to know it was gonna stick my name all over the place?

[ Fair enough. ]

Is it going to be safe for you? You don't have um, enemies or the sort that don't know your identity, do you?

[sighs]

[ He shouldn't be surprised. ]

[He's never really had to deal with this--the last 'bad guy' who knew his secret identity was family, and, well. That didn't last very long anyway.]
