( 001 ☁ video )
[It starts off as an audio to start with a few mumbling noises of "How do I even get this to — oh, maybe this button? Oh, gods, that's not right" until finally the view of a young man appears, with a mess of auburn hair and face plastered with freckles appears on the screen, a smile popping up as soon as he sees the visual seems to be working.]
Ah, see, there you go! Not so hard once you get it going. [Sure, the technology was immensely different from what he's used to, but he could handle it.] Okay, well, ah, they said you could talk to this thing? Right, well.
[He opens his mouth to speak, but as soon as he does, you can hear quite a loud thumping nearby that snatches his attention.] Toothless! Be careful there, bud, you don't wanna — [A louder thump, probably equal to the sound of furniture tipping over. The young man winces, but ultimately just sighs.]
He's ... he's fine. It's just kind of cramped in here. Small room. Big dragon. You know how it goes. Anyway. [Even if they don't, he's smiling at the screen again even if it's a bit nervously.]
Hi, folks! Hiccup here. And that, over there, is Toothless. [The screen shift to temporarily show a giant black dragon growling at a couch for making it difficult for him to sit, before it goes back to Hiccup.] We're not really from around here — well, a lot of you aren't either, I've heard, but my home's really far away. Like, blast into the past far away. Berk, it's an isolated island of Vikings, who just happen to also be dragon riders. And speaking of, has anyone seen any dragons around? I thought I might check around to see if — h-hey, watch it!
[In a moment, Toothless snatches the communicator between his teeth, forcing viewers to stare into the mouth of a Night Fury, as pink and gross and wet as you'd expect any dragon's mouth to be. The grumbling sound of Toothless' attempt to chew on the device is amplified in its current location while the muffled sounds of a desperate Viking is heard in the background.]
Toothless! Come on, bud, this isn't something you can just eat. Give it back! You know that doesn't wash out!

[permavid]
[Kenzi is pinged by the dragon but so is Sir Apple who is now hogging the screen in front of her because that's a tiny dragon there (tiny to him because of the screen, really he's the tiny dragon).]
Move it, butthead, it's hard to talk to someone if you're in the way. [She shoves the dragon too the side only to have him trying to crawl over her shoulder.]
So, uh, that's Sir Apple. As you can see you aren't the only one with a friendly dragon pal. Of course, there's been other dragons brought here before. Much bigger and meaner. [At least Crematia was mean. Downright evil was the way to put it.]
[permavid]
That's almost like a Terrible Terror you've got there. Or is it still a baby? I actually don't get to see a lot of kinds that stay that small.
[Even Toothless is rather interested in the sight, peeking his nose in trying to sniff at the screen, despite the barrier of it simply being an image.]
Are those other dragons still around?
no subject
Y'know, I dunno. He hasn't gotten much bigger in the past year so I'm guessing he's fully grown. But, then again, I don't really know much about what kind of dragon he is. I've always just assumed he's a fairy dragon. They're small and kind of colorful like this. ...I think. [Fantasy artwork has always depicted them as small and colorful, resembling something more similar to butterflies so she's simply assumed that's what he is. Although, giving it's winter, his colors are more subdued than normal.]
I don't think so. If they are they've been really quiet.
no subject
I've never seen that type before but ... well, there are a ton of species back home and I still haven't even found them all. I've been doing a lot of traveling, going out to learn more about them and I just keep finding more and more. [Just before he got here, he'd even found a huge new assortment of them at once in his mother's dragon sanctuary.]
It's weird that there aren't really any others around here. Where'd you find, uh, Sir Apple?
no subject
Upon hearing his name Sir Apple lets out something like a curious chirp and redoubles his efforts to get in front of the comm.]
Uh, has anyone told you about the City yet? If not it's kind of a long story on how I came to have this little guy with me.
no subject
The City? Uh, no, I don't think so. But really, I'm pretty clueless about most things in this place. Other than the basic "there's no dragons here, but go be a hero" thing.
no subject
[She pauses before she ends up rambling more about the other Earth and the City.]
But, yeah, the short of it is that place kind of blew up and the 'Porter brought us here.
Now, back there all kinds of weird shit went down, usually caused by the 'Porter. And at one point she was sending us to all these other worlds. I ran into Sir Apple on one of those worlds and somehow he followed me back.
no subject
So all this stuff, it's been going on for a while. People are brought here and they ... stay here, then.
no subject
Yeah, like six years? Maybe more. People was being pulled from their homes to the City long before it happened to me. They don't stay though, not always. Sometimes they go home but it's random. Sometime they'll come back with their memories of this place...sometimes they'll come back and not remember. Sometimes they never come back, they just go right back to when and where they came from.
no subject
That all seems kind of unfair to the people though. I mean, there was something pretty important going on for me back home that I should really be there for. I can probably bet that goes for a lot of people too. What do they need to take other people from their own homes for?
no subject
Well, what you got going on back home will wait on you. Time stands still while we're gone. And, uh, they don't really have control over the 'Porter. It just brings in people, hero, villain or otherwise and the government just tries to make us comfortable. [Wow, that sounds like she's pro-government or something.]
That is...they're kinda stuck with us and us with them until the 'Porter sends us back.
no subject
How can time just stand still? You mean that we're just randomly plucked from our homes but they won't even know we're gone? [He tries to imagine the idea, but it's a little too bizarre in his mind.] Does that mean they're dependent on us going back in order to continue ... well, living? If that makes any sense.
no subject
Because, I mean, like, someone from your home could show up here but be from, like, a week into the future or something and they won't even know you was gone.
[A pause.] I feel like I need to make a chart or something for this.
no subject
He laughs a bit, scratching at his head as he tries to process all the information.]
That's ... really weird. It's hard to imagine, but I think I get what you're trying to say. I mean, I don't get how that would work, but I can sort of see what's happening. Though I don't know, it's just strange why it'd even happen that way. Are we supposed to do something specific in this time-stopped world, help out with something before they send us back on our way?
no subject
Nope. You're here to do whatever you want, for the most part. You can go along with the government and do the hero bull or you can just try to live some sort of life until the 'Porter sends you home. Being brought here, going back home, it's all random. There's no real goal.
no subject
I guess I might as well take advantage of this power thing they gave me, even if it's not to play hero, because ... well, I'm not really a hero. You wouldn't know anything about figuring out how to use the powers, do you?
no subject
Don't worry, must of us here aren't heroes and don't pretend to be. As far as powers goes it depends on what you got.
no subject
[Not that he knows how'd he be if he ended up being here for a long time.]
So for powers, it's literally just a "wing it" kind of deal, huh? Cause that's exactly how I've been figuring it out so far.
no subject
Well, some powers have a less "wing it" approach. What'd you get?
no subject
Funny enough, air and wind manipulation. Sometimes I wave my hands and a bit of wind shows up, but I haven't really gotten the whole system down.
no subject
Huh. Not sure how to help there but if you ever want to see if you can fly I can totes do a thing to make sure you don't die. And if you need a place to figure things out without worrying about breaking anything my boss has this little arena he's set up.
no subject
What's this arena like? We used to have a training academy back home that was kind of set up like one. We did a lot of practice for the dragons there.
no subject
Uh, it's not like some big gladiator arena. It's meant for training or sparring. If you're ever in Maurtia Falls I can show you.
no subject
And conveniently, I actually live in Maurtia Falls, so I'm there pretty often.
no subject
Well, then, come on by the Red Branch sometime. [She attaches some handy direction for getting there.]
