Today--in my world--November 9, 2015 marks the one year anniversary of the birth of the Jaeger program. Happy First Birthday to Mark-1 Brawler Yukon.

And I really did not want to have to make this post on today, of all days, but I've put it off long enough.



Robotics Engineer and Jaeger pilot Mako Mori appears have been ported out.

[Here Newt thinks "I don't know how to do this in a personal sense. I've never been good with this and I've spent too many years with the PPDC. All I know is form letters. 'We regret to inform you...'"]

I hope she's gone home to kick some Kaiju ass.

[He includes a picture of Mako's beautiful model of (ironically the last Jaeger) Gipsy Danger 2.0. Newt and Hermann will be keeping this for her in the hope that she returns. Or to give to Raleigh or Pentecost, should they appear before she does. He's not sure if he selfishly hopes she returns, or is happy for her that she's gotten to go home.]

If there was anything in her possession that belonged to you and you would like it returned, please forward your request to either me or Dr. Gottlieb.

[If Newt has seemed a lot more subdued since the 7th, and in the next few days, this is the reason. It's frightening to think that someone he knows could disappear overnight. He really doesn't like to consider the implications. He's not great at expressing his feelings, nor were he and Mako especially close, but she was a valued member of their team, kind and caring, bright and capable; he respected her abilities. He's going to miss her quiet smiles and her calming presence.]

It's still a large robotic weapon that shouldn't be used for human wars.

Not a bad idea if we were interested in making toys.

But I will program Gipsy. It may even make a good project for Hiro to practice with.

Hiro doesn't need to practice on Gipsy. You just want to program her.

Make us something useful, too, like a roomba or a Rosie.

I prefer not to waste my talents. It's not as though I don't have enough side projects. Besides, Gipsy would be among Hiro's interests, and programming a Jaeger- even a miniature one- is no small task. But he'd wish to keep her then, I suppose. Perhaps I should build another.. Yukon would be awfully fitting, but I don't know that I could part with models of any of the Mark-1s.

I poured everything into coding their operating systems. I'm allowed a bit of sentiment.

But we only have the one small apartment, Newton. There's hardly room for many.

There's Christmases to consider. I'm sure Hiro would like to take one off your hands sometime, maybe Tadashi, maybe a couple other of the robot enthusiasts in this post. Keep the Mark 1s for you and hand out the others.

True, but I'm not going to kill myself building and coding them in a month and a half. We'll see.

Please do not let Hiro do that.

[If Hiro can program a miniature, it means he'll know how to program a larger one and Hiro does not need to have that knowledge.]

I can't make any promises, Mr. Hamada. Programming is a very diverse tool and Hiro is exceptionally bright. Rest assured however, he will know how to use those languages with care.

You haven't gotten a good read on my brother then yet.

I'll study it with him, if that's all right.

Well I didn't say he'd follow any of it.

[Small geniuses are ever curious and yes, not always responsible in that curiosity. He's not teaching Hiro anything about programming weaponry, but that likely wouldn't stall him for too long]

But well enough, then. I don't mind. We'll work on something else for the time being.
