Today--in my world--November 9, 2015 marks the one year anniversary of the birth of the Jaeger program. Happy First Birthday to Mark-1 Brawler Yukon.

And I really did not want to have to make this post on today, of all days, but I've put it off long enough.



Robotics Engineer and Jaeger pilot Mako Mori appears have been ported out.

[Here Newt thinks "I don't know how to do this in a personal sense. I've never been good with this and I've spent too many years with the PPDC. All I know is form letters. 'We regret to inform you...'"]

I hope she's gone home to kick some Kaiju ass.

[He includes a picture of Mako's beautiful model of (ironically the last Jaeger) Gipsy Danger 2.0. Newt and Hermann will be keeping this for her in the hope that she returns. Or to give to Raleigh or Pentecost, should they appear before she does. He's not sure if he selfishly hopes she returns, or is happy for her that she's gotten to go home.]

If there was anything in her possession that belonged to you and you would like it returned, please forward your request to either me or Dr. Gottlieb.

[If Newt has seemed a lot more subdued since the 7th, and in the next few days, this is the reason. It's frightening to think that someone he knows could disappear overnight. He really doesn't like to consider the implications. He's not great at expressing his feelings, nor were he and Mako especially close, but she was a valued member of their team, kind and caring, bright and capable; he respected her abilities. He's going to miss her quiet smiles and her calming presence.]

What sort of questions?

Well, let's start with the obvious ones. Is it real?

I mean obviously that one is just a model, but is there a real one somewhere? Robotics is something of an interest of mine.

Yes, Gipsy Danger was a 79m or 260ft Jaeger in our world. Part of the Mark-3 series and was the last to be in active service.

[mammal_robot]

Good grief that's huge. But it makes it pretty clear what Kaiju are, which was going to be my next question.

[mathemagier]

Yes, they were built to scale of the Kaiju. Not the most elegant of weapons perhaps, but effective, and considerably better than dropping nuclear warheads along our coastlines.

[mammal_robot]

No argument there.

Were YOU involved in building these Jaegers?

I programmed the operating systems for the initial line of Mark-1 Jaegers.

Fantastic! How would you like a job?

A real job. None of this "museum attendant" garbage.

I have a rather nice one at the moment, but I am curious.

This wouldn't be for a while. Unfortunately I'm still working on putting things together; the little stipend they give us would be great for a broke college student, but it's not really ideal for starting a business. EVENTUALLY, though, I'm going to be making a sort of brain trust of Imports.

As far as I can tell, we've got people from a million different dimensions working at cross purposes or on the same projects without sharing notes or comparing results. If we just got everyone organized, there's no telling what we could accomplish.

I see, a rather fascinating prospect. I don't know that I could commit to something like that full-time at the moment, but as it's not something that's in the immediate future, I imagine there will be considerably more discussion before then. I am interested, however.

Probably. What's your field of expertise?

Cryptozoology I'm a biologist. I studied the Kaiju. I'm also Hermann's lab partner, so if you think you get one without the other--it's a twofer deal, right, Hermann? Back me up here, pal.

Yes. Newton may not have much of an engineering background, but he's rather brilliant in his own right.

I didn't mean to imply that I was only interested in engineers. I'm looking for all sorts of smart people. You never know when a mycologist will have the solution for a problem someone's having in exotic materials.
