[ this is a sensitive topic, and Kaneki often hides away from those behind TEXT but he will be doing a video today out of respect, mostly. He is wearing an eyepatch on the opposite eye he usually wears it and seems to be dressed up really nicely. ]

I have been here for four years, officially. Time and age is still a bit confusing after this long, but my first network post was four years ago when I was only 18. I've seen many people come and go, I've lost many, saw many forget this place and myself, and I remember all of them. Dearly.

We never know how to see this sort of date. If we should be happy or sad to spend year after year here, and all the implications that come with it. I wonder how it feels to others, because I don't know how it feels to me. Do you even celebrate this? Or drink yourself silly? [ he smiles a little, a sad sort of smile, but shakes his head after ] There is a memorial in Heropa, for us to remember those imPort who have left. I guess that's how I will celebrate this day.


[ but moving on from that. ]

I know new imPorts just arrived, I'm sorry this is such a sad introduction. I'm Ken Kaneki, and apart from being here for so long, I've also written a F.A.Q for new arrivals, and those who like to read a lot, I've also written notes on everything that happened since 2015. [ Oh... well, Kaneki certainly doesn't want to impose, he knows Dee isn't the sort of person to do something like that. But he is also not the type of person to offer just to be nice.

Is there someone you wish to remember as well? [ Kei comes to mind, naturally. Kaneki does expect that answer too, though he doesn't expect Dee to voice it ]

People handle that kind of loss in different ways. I don't think there's any right or wrong method to it, unless you let it take over your life.

There are many who don't come from good places. Mine is... well, a grey are, so to speak.

D33 and I talked about something similar the other day. There are reasons to celebrate it. The people here that haven't disappeared. D33 and other friends you've made. Your cafe. The freedom here.

And there are reasons not to celebrate. For me, the day I came here is also the day I died. It doesn't make me feel like celebrating. Nothing connected to my world does.

When you go the memorial, you can remember that at least they got to live in this world for a little while. That's better than nothing.

And I can remember them without the memorial. I always have.

It is. There are lots of dates for me to celebrate. Meeting my friends here, moving in with you and D33. Getting the cats. Impovision. The day my album gets released.

Do you have something like a memory palace?

How did you decide what to do with yourself when you arrived?

I didn't exactly decide.

When I arrived, I simply wanted to live as peaceful as possible. With time though, new situations came up, and I reacted to them. Eventually, I decided I didn't want to simply react anymore, that I wanted certain things to stop before they even started.

Is that why you keep such meticulous logs?

It can be kind of depressing, sure, but I prefer to look at it as kind of a net positive? You know, the fact that we got to meet all of these people in the first place.

Then again, I don't actually remember when I got ported in, so I never keep track. Maybe that makes things a little easier.

I celebrated, when I made it to my first year. For better or for worse, this is home now. I am glad for it, no matter how much I miss those who have gone.

I'll be there in April at the four year mark. So for as many people who have gone, there are still those of us who remain, and I'd choose to celebrate it with those of us who are still here. Our closest companions.

Do you miss home?

Not at all. There's never really been anything for me there. And although I haven't yet experienced it, I do know it will only be a few short weeks until I die back in my world. So this one has already offered me so much more than my world ever could.
