I'm going to bypass what I assume are the usual comments concerning the... inconvenience of being brought here. I'm sure I'm not the only one who was either in the middle of something important or simply has more pressing matters at "home", so there's little point in being redundant.

[All-in-all, he appears to be taking this alright. There's only the slightest twitch, a furrowing of the brow -- but to anyone who claims to know Light well, this is merely an indication that's he a lot more irritated than he's letting on. (Consider it a blessing that no one really knows Light all that well.) He continues.]

My name is Light Yagami; I was a first year college student in Japan before my arrival. I understand that there are shared residencies here... in that case, if you happen to be one of my housemates, I'd appreciate you letting me know. I'd like to familiarize myself with your names, faces, backgrounds, personalities and et cetera, just so I can get a sense of [what he's getting himself into] who I'm living with and what daily life is going to be like. Just out of curiosity.

Secondly -- and this is directed to anyone seeing this -- I'd like some advice as to how to adapt here. This is a - [a pause because the notion sounds ridiculous but here he is] reality that isn't my own, so as far as I know, down could be up and up could be down. Explanations of do's and don't's are welcome, as is just general information if that's all you have to contribute. And yes, I know I've already been given a summary of what's supposedly happening; it's just that I wouldn't mind getting second opinions, or just meeting the people here.

[He looks as if he's about to end it there, and then, as if remembering something:]

Oh, and is the calendar on this thing right? February 26th? It's almost my birthday again.

I quite appreciate the kindness of that sentiment, Mr. Yagami. But I would not permit anyone to deplete their material resources on my behalf.

That's out of the question. [whoop, stubbornness.] Housing's free anyway, so it's not like we need to worry about extra rent. I can do the math later, but I'm sure with four people working, at the very least you won't have to worry about basic amenities.

[Assuming everyone else registers. Yes, he realizes that but neglects to point it out.]

Anyway, I'd imagine you wouldn't plan to be out of a job forever.

No, naturally I would not be - out of a job forever. But -

[The faint frown turns into a deep frown.]

Don't be stubborn, Mr. Edgeworth; a situation like this isn't a time when you should be worried about your pride. That can always come later.

When, precisely? After I've spent a few months being a drain on everyone around me?

If it becomes that big of an issue, then a discussion will be held about it at the proper time. Honestly, is it that difficult for you to accept a little help?

Naturally not. I will openly and gladly accept help if it is appropriate. But as this is a choice I am making completely of my own recognizance, I do not think that twisting the arms of those about me until they support me in my decision is morally appropriate in the least.

Does it - does it honestly sound like you're twisting my arm?

...I simply do not think it is right for me to demand support from others. That is all.

You're not demanding support, I'm offering it. Honestly, it's a little rude to decline this kind of help when it's given out in good-will. I might take offense.

Then if you won't accept monetary help, then at least stay in the house. Like I said, it's free anyway and you may as well- ["take advantage". No. Bad wording for this instance.] -stay safe with a roof over your head for now.

Throwing your home open to some jobless layabout who's spent the past twenty minutes criticizing you mercilessly.

[Bah.] Just because your personality needs some tweaking doesn't mean you deserve to be thrown out on the street. The punishment doesn't fit the crime.

[Cautiously, like he's about to fall into a trap:] Part-time Internal Investigations intern. I can also continue my studies here if I want.

...I presume you will not want to stay in that position indefinitely.

I can't say I've really thought that far ahead, but if I were to answer honestly -- no. Likely not.
