[So maybe he was gone for a couple days and needed the time to deal. He doubts anyone had been looking for him during that time since he disappears all the time. His memories took time to settle, to get him used to everything he'd had back home being...gone.

To not even having the same skills he'd had back home when he came back. He could feel they were gone. The All-Blades. It was like an empty kind of void he didn't know he would have if they weren't there, but it existed all the same. Then there was the hair...]

So, how often do people lose skills they had back home and end up with new ones altogether? Because I can't say I enjoy the unexpected swap.

[Is he going to say what the swap was? Hell no.]

It's not about settling. It's accepting life for what it is and working with it.

That's not what we do. Things can be... better, that's the whole point.

No, we do what we do so life can be better for other people. That's all that matters. I'm okay with that.

[And maybe he forgot that for a while having friends and people he cared about and who seemed to care about him. Being a tenuous part of a family, even if they didn't seem like they wanted him around half the time. It had been good.

Then life reminded him what the point really was.]

That matters more, but we don't--

[ she stops for a moment. sighs. she hates how much jason sounds like her at her worst right now. yeah, she's got her suspicions and concerns about jason, things they've never actually talked about, but--

he's still her brother. and right now that nagging bit of her brain doesn't get to steer this. ]

Have you... tried talking to anyone?

Talk to someone? We're talking right now, aren't we?

[Talking enough, considering. He is never sure what Cass expects of him. There is a lot about her that reminds him of Bruce. The obsession with the mission. The judgmental undertone he feels to every interaction with each other, even when things seem good. He trusts Cass more than he does Bruce--especially now--but it's not reciprocated and he doesn't think it ever will be.

Maybe they are just too different to really be that family she and Tim like to claim they are. Different paths. Different goals.

It's not their fault. It's just life, right?]
