THE MAJORITY REPORT: MARCH 20TH, 2019

THE MAJORITY REPORT: MARCH 20TH, 2019
Did you miss your Last Standing Ambassador speak?

OBJECTIFYING THE NEWS
As seen in an official government announcement issued to major networks and newspapers throughout the Porter cities:
Following the anomaly of numerous objects appearing in the Porter room without being accompanied by new imPorts, a team of government scientists and Porter technicians believe they have identified a common link between the owners of said items: all donated items from their home dimension to the charity auction held during February's swear-in. To further investigate this phenomenon, all imPorts are invited to make further donations. Those who are willing but have no possessions from home may donate a lock of hair, a fingernail clipping or similar material. Donated items will be returned following the investigation if possible. The government is also seeking the winning bidders of the charity items in order to look into all sides of this incident.

A SERIOUS TURN ((Content Warning for Domestic Violence))
As seen in local Floridian news, various internet sites and Bwitter:
A man found guilty of domestic abuse despite his former partner denying any crime has dropped his appeal against his conviction. The defense accepted the jury's conclusion that the woman had been assaulted and that the appellant was responsible. Peter Randall was convicted of aggravated stalking, a third-degree felony.

When asked to comment, he answered: "Violence is a choice I make, for which I alone am responsible. I accept that my behaviour is unacceptable and hope that my sentence provides comfort and a life free of domination and control."

This all begs the question: can violent men ever change? The Heropa Women's Shelter - one of our local organisations offering domestic violence support – say it's natural to hope that your partner will change, but that the truth is it usually gets worse over time. But they accept change is possible and have offered Randall advice and support through one of their perpetrator programmes.

AN ARTFELT PSA ((Content Warning for NSFW language in image in link))
As seen in the local news in Maurtia Falls and social media:
Since Armitage Hux's arrest earlier this month, graffiti critical of Aegis Force has been on the rise around Maurtia Falls. The online group Shieldbreakers have officially disclaimed credit for the tags, but have stated they’re glad their message is being heard in the community.

Aegis Force Agents Darin Altway and Lester Papadopolous have been working to clean up tagging around the city, replacing the aggression with art and positivity. Their new street art includes messages such as “Everyone’s imPortant”.

“Art has a funny way of makin’ people feel things,” said Darin. “It’s a good way to get a message out, so if people want to try and bring people down and make people angry with their art, I’ll just turn it right around on them. No reason we can’t all feel good about the work we do!”

Lester agreed with the sentiment, noting, “Creative outlets like art and music are what connect us with the universe.”

In spirit of that connection, Lester, with support from Aegis, will begin an arts therapy program in the months to come.

“The general idea is that art, whether it’s painting or playing music, boosts self-esteem and creative expression and confidence. It’s pretty well-established in the literature, but more importantly, it’s art. Who wouldn’t want to express themselves and show the world what they’re capable of?”

Business owners hit by the tagging have welcomed the Agents' artwork, allowing the Force to give their storefronts a fresh lick of paint and new murals.

"It really brightens up the store without breaking the budget," one shopkeeper said.

(Newspaper articles are accompanied by photos of Darin and Lester posing with their handiwork, but on social media, a grainy photo of Cayde-6 in front of a tag clearly censored for language (OOC: NSFW text on image at link; censoring is only IC) is starting to pick up more engagement than the article itself. Said Agent Cayde-6: “I’m glad they got my good side.”)

A NEW HOPE
As seen in Heropa Daily (in print and online) and online forums:
Sharpen your pencils, because classes have begun for the Heropa Organization for Import Education! The newly remodeled school has been a hub of imPort activity recently. ImPorts of all ages are encouraged to join the student body... and the faculty. While the Swear-in was thankfully accident-free, H.O.P.E is not opening its doors unscathed.

A children’s rights group has been stirring up attention regarding one of the school’s teachers, a seven-year old imPort by the name of “Bean”. His employment is in clear violation of Florida's child labor laws. The headmaster of H.O.P.E. has been reached for comment, and claims that the matter has already been lawfully addressed. He was also cited saying that “exceptions should be expected of exceptional people.”

CODE SWITCH
The Homeland Security Advisory System has moved from CURRANT to SPRING HEELED GREEN, because it is spring and it's time to heal.

I'm not going back to second grade and a paper route.

You won't have to. I expect that this attention will fade soon enough.

I hope it does. Thank you again for defending me to the critics.

It's no trouble at all. I wouldn't do so if I didn't believe it.

I'm certain you will.

On a lighter subject, I have something I've been meaning to ask you. Are you familiar with chess? I believe it's something you might enjoy.

I know chess. I've never had much time for games, but I'm familiar with the theory behind some of the rules.

it's a shame that people seem insistent on judging an entire organization based on one person's actions. i've planned on seeing things for myself but the aegis force's mission seems like a decent one. what do people have against it?

[he'd like to see both sides for himself, if he had to be honest.]

Let the guy teach. They wouldn't hire a literal child as a teacher unless he was the best choice for the job. I'm not to nearly that level of smart, and I was the best person for a lot of jobs I wasn't seen as old enough for, and the people around me were better for it.

Speaking of the school, anyone know how to get in communication with the guy in charge? I might be interested in joining, but I kind of want to ask a bunch of questions first.

Thank you.

The headmaster's name is Walter Strickler. I can put you in touch with him if you would like.

Not a problem. A lot of average adults just don't get that there are kids who would be harmed by their attempts to 'protect' them. Since you're capable of teaching a class, making you pretend you're like any other seven year old is a disservice to you on multiple levels, and anyone willing to use their brains should be able to figure this out.

I'd like that. Thank you.

Again, thanks for the endorsement.
