[Boy, Allura looks pretty tired right now. Look carefully, you'll see she has the faintest traces of bags under her eyes. And those stray flyaway hairs! Look at them, they're popping out all over the place, making her hair look even more cloud-like than usual.]
[Despite the lack of attention to her appearance, the whole setup is a degree more professional than usual, with the princess sitting across a table from the communicator camera, ready to talk. Except, that is, for the fact that words seem to be failing her. But it's not for needing more rehearsal — instead, she picks up a glass of water and takes a drink to clear her throat. When she sets it back down, it slams a little harder on the table than needed, an unintended act of aggravation.]
This is Princess Allura, requesting more information on porting out.
I know that this is a regular occurrence, and often temporary... not in every instance, but often enough.
I also know that that when it is temporary, it's common for the imPort to return a mere 24 hours after their departure. But... how often does it take longer than that? What's the longest it's been known take?
I'm asking because Darin... [She falters on his name for a moment, before firming up her mask of professionalism.] ... Darin Altway was ported out sometime between 24 and 36 hours ago. He's missing, both from our Heropa residence and from the list of imPort contacts on the communicators. While this is far too early to declare him gone for good... it occurred to me I never learned the procedures for this.
When my fellow Paladins left, I... truthfully, I waited until everyone else had come to the consensus that they weren't returning anytime soon, and I accepted it as well. Perhaps it was easier because I already knew when I would see them again. [She means 'easier to accept', but let's face it, it's actually 'easier to not make a big stupid emotional vlog about'.] But this time, I would rather track the situation myself.
If anyone could provide any information or advice, it would be appreciated...

Aren't they? The little ones seem to be even better than their proper size somehow. [she picks up one for herself and has no problem just popping the whole thing in her mouth.]
no subject
[You know, so Darin can try some.]
[... ... ...]
[She finishes the first one, and picks up a second to shove into her mouth right after. It's fine!!]

she looks down at her plate for a beat before nodding.]
You should. They keep for a couple days, if you keep them bagged. And even if you find you're out...well. They make them freshly every day here. And I never say no to stopping by here, so.
[her smile is smaller, but still sincere. Allura doesn't have to do this alone.]

[And the sooner he gets back, the less chance she'll be welcoming him back with stale donuts.]
[It's fine. He'll be back soon.]
You know, this is nice. Maybe... maybe we should make it a habit to meet up here regularly.

It's different. Is all.
no subject
... that's not to say we're doing this for the sake of desserts, but... you know what I mean! Don't you?

gods, the ache never seems to go away, does it. Owain. Hearth. Leo. now Darin.
she breathes some of it out, wiping some crumbs off her fingernails.]
I'm usually the one getting berated for it. But I'll try to do better. [because if she's hurting, Allura's got it worse, she figures.] I've picked up a few tricks along the way here, especially from my friend Iris.

[Her thoughts go first to the Iris that Darin had talked about, from his world... but no, that makes literally no sense. Despite any apparent similarities, Lucina and Darin are from different worlds. It's most likely another unexpectedly common human name — like "Lance" and "Finn".]
What do you mean? What kinds of tricks?
no subject
Yes. Things like...buying fanciful things, or getting ice cream, or watching films...there was a list, I think. I'll have to look it up. But ways to spend time outside of work that make time go by faster -- and help make you feel better in the process.
We could try a few, if you like! [a beat.] ...The donuts count, actually. So it looks like we're already on our way.
no subject
And it counts as doing something good for my mental health?
... ... ...
I like this idea already.
[Clearly, once she's feeling better, she'll have to make a point to spend more time with Iris as well!]

Then I say we give it a go. First, some of these confections to give us some energy, and then... [...hmm... she looks thoughtful for a moment.]
Well. The department stores tend to have a bit of everything, but if you're keen on jewelry specifically, we could find a boutique...
no subject
[She pauses, looking down at the distinctly dessert-like confection in her hand. ... shush, they're adults! They can have dessert after dessert! It's allowed!]
What sort of "everything" did you have in mind?
no subject
As I said, everything.
