[ While others are worried about the crystals falling from the sky, Padmé has come to the network to address an entirely different, personal matter. Not that she doesn't find the crystals worrisome, but she's been on this planet long enough to understand that sometimes these things just happen. And comparing the phenomenon to the Death Star replacing the Moon has also helped to keep things in perspective. Along with... other events.

Since I arrived on this planet nearly a year ago, I have been pursuing my assigned career as a vlogger, but recent events have taken the joy of it from me. I feel it's time for a change and I'd like to know if anyone has any suggestions for how to proceed.

What are you good at? Where do your talents lie?

I've spent most of my life in politics and public service. I always felt it was my purpose in life to protect my people and help make the galaxy a better place.

I assume there are openings for such jobs here.

They gave you the vlogging job when you arrived? Seems like a waste if you have experience elsewhere. Unless you were reporting on politics or something.

I don't feel I know enough about this world to become involved in its politics even after a year of living here, not in the way I was in my universe.

My vlogging was more lifestyle and advice on professional life, though I did use it as an opportunity to attempt discovering who I was as a person without my political career.

So it was useful for a time but now you feel that you have to move on.

The ol' career rut. Trust me, I feel ya. You know what really clears your head? Headin' out to the Wild for a spell. Y'know, sit with nature, shoot a few bandits.

[ She smiles in mild amusement, with no cruelty or malice in the expression. ]

I'm not certain I would enjoy that last part, but spending time in nature does sound quite appealing.

Well, different strokes of course. The nature is pretty great.

Do you have any suggestions for location? I haven't seen much of this planet beyond the imPort cities.

How far are you lookin' to travel? I've been all 'round the planet, in my time.

I used to regularly travel across the galaxy, planetary travel is of no real concern to me.

Noted. What ya wanna do is head south. Waaaaaay south, down to a region called Patagonia. Gorgeous landscapes down that way; really can't go wrong with whichever part of it you wind up in.

Is there anything you've ever WANTED to do? Some childhood dream you never realized because life took you in another direction? I mean, the way this place works, it'd seem this is the time and place to try chasing some of those sillier dreams.

[ She's quiet for a moment, considering the question and trying to form an answer that isn't quite so devastating as the truth. ]

I can't recall having any other dreams than the life I led. I wanted to serve my people, so I began working in politics when I was eight. I was elected queen at fourteen and appointed to the Galactic Senate at eighteen. I never saw a life for myself beyond that.

[ Except she had. She'd dreamed of having a family, of helping those less fortunate in the galaxy in ways she couldn't do as a public official. But those dreams would never come to pass and it did no good to dwell on them now. ]

That's an impressive bunch of titles. [ And it sounds a bit flippant, maybe, but she's trying to wrap her head around the idea of being so sure of what you want at such a young age. When Selina was eight, she just wanted a better life than the one she had. She wanted a sign that things would get better. ] You were queen?

Well. Seems to me that you already chased your more elaborate dreams. You could pursue politics here, maybe, but where's the fun in doing something you've already done? Do you have any... hidden talents, maybe? Skills you haven't been utilizing in your political career?

My program was called "Padméing Your Resume" — I offered advice on how to expand your professional and personal portfolios while exploring the major imPort cities and the opportunities available in them.

First of all, that pun is beautiful. [She would know, they take puns very seriously in Gotham.]

It also sounds like an incredibly useful service, and something you could translate to physical classes, if you wanted.

...Have you ever worked with teenagers?

Have you ever thought of returning to politics here?

[ He offered her a small smile; this would probably be difficult to talk about, but... ]

I think the way things are now, someone being able to speak out for imPorts would be helpful.

That would be the easiest course of action, though I'm not certain yet whether I understand enough of this planet to successfully navigate its politics to make a substantial difference for the imPort population.

[ She gave him a smile of her own, though there was no real light behind it. ]

Truthfully, the idea of returning to politics is both welcoming and painful. It's all I've ever known in my life, but with all that happened in those last days before— [ Before she lost everything. ] I'm just not sure.

[ Luke nodded; he wasn't the charismatic politician of the family. That was Padme and Leia, but he still understood. ]

Do you mind if I ask you one thing?

[ Her smile turned warm and affectionate then. It was so sweet of him to ask, and she was reminded again of how grateful she was to this world for allowing her the chance to know her son and see the man he would become. ]

You can ask me anything, Luke. Always.

[ His smile turned a little sad, because he had a feeling he knew the answer, and that answer led to... well... ]

Did you ever give up? On father? On democracy? On the galaxy?

[ She was quiet for a moment before asking a question of her own. ]

Before I was brought here or after?

[ The smile fell from his face; the idea of his mother giving up on anything hurt to think about. ]

...have things changed that much here?

[ Perhaps, just this once, she should have lied to him and continued pretending that everything was okay. But he wasn't a child; she would never know him at an age when he needed that sort of protection. ]

In the days before you were born, before I died, [ it still hurt to say those words ] I didn't have time to process what was happening and what it would mean for the galaxy. Palpatine took control and then the Jedi were— [ She can't say that. ] I was angry and worried and afraid. I didn't have time to lose faith.

[ There was a lot she couldn't say, and he understood that. She didn't need to; he understood her pain. ]

Even caught in the moment, you weren't wrong not to lose faith.

[ Pressing fingers to her lips, she thought again before speaking, thinking through the words so that she wouldn't misspeak or give the wrong impression. ]

I never lost faith in your father. Even after what he did, I knew there was still good in him. I still believe that with all my heart. And I believe in democracy and the strength of our galaxy. Look at all you and Leia accomplish.

[ She may not know all the details, but she knows enough to be so very proud of her children for all they do to help restore peace to the galaxy. ]

I think if I've given up on anything since being here, it's myself.

[ Luke stared at her, for a moment at a loss for words. ]
