[Posted way too early in the morning - Carter's had trouble sleeping and he's been watching cute animal videos for too much of that time.]
I know you're not supposed to adopt pets, since we might get ported back out and leave them all alone and that would be pretty awful for them. But can you like...can you rent dogs? I feel like our house could use at least one pet. It would make the place feel more homey.
I'd be willing to pay extra for the fire kind, but even a regular dog would be nice to have for a while. Or a cat. Or one of those trained pigs or tiny horses or something.
[Has he asked literally anyone else who lives in the house about this? That's an excellent question and the answer is a definitely no.]

[ The image of 622 with a dog is... cute... ]
but you might have to explain 'fire kind' to me

Besides, it'd be good for 622.

you in the living room?
[ He's just going to pad out there anyway, to look for him. At least he's wearing pyjama bottoms? No shirt though. Look there's only so much he bothers to pack in an overnight bag.
Also the pyjamas are covered in little silhouettes of fighter jets, because he's a fucking nerd. ]

[ What? Dogs are HAPPY and love pets. ]
carter is too pure for all the jokes in my arsenal for this
You, uh. Are you actually a dog?
[Cause that looks like a person and Carter has a lot of weird images in his head of some person hanging out in his house in a dog onesie panting and barking. He tries not to show how much that weirds him out.]
Re: carter is too pure for all the jokes in my arsenal for this
Yeah, I'm a shapeshifter. I can do a couple of dogs.

( Or rather, she could, but it would be especially inconvenient to have to grow a tail every time her pet gave her a kiss when she didn't have a towel on hand to dry herself off in less than ten seconds. )
It's a shame, really.

Rent-a-pet, hm? Sounds like something you should pioneer, if there isn't such a thing already.

[ He's fairly certain he has that right. He's never looked into adopting a pet for obvious reasons, but that seems to be a sort of ubiquitous understanding, that they're always looking for more adopters. ]

Please consult with the rest of us before you bring an animal into the household.

I don't know much about Earth animals... A dog is the bigger, four legged furry one, right?

Suppose renting a dog wouldn't be a bad idea.

Don't let the fear of leaving them stop you from getting a pet. Just make a plan for it. Like a local would have a plan, in case they got hit by a bus or something.
Or you could foster an animal. There must be a shelter looking for volunteer foster families.
Re: video
What's fostering an animal involve?

I just looked up what a cat cafe is and I think I need to go there instantly.
LMAO that was a wholesome pair of tags

Fostering a pet sounds like a good idea. Especially if they need to get used to humans again.
But ... the fire kind?
Re: video; hope this isn't too late!
Yeah, the kind that's on fire! [Duh.]
