I have been wondering... For those of you not from Earth (or from an Earth significantly different from this one), what do you think of humans?

Humans can also tell me what they think of humans. I don't mind.

Do you have favorites? Do you have frustrations? Are you enjoying your stay?

Most humans aren't atrocious. When they're properly motivated, they produce very inventive media and other things.

There are exceptions. Less so here than on the Earth I'm familiar with.

What is it that makes your Earth's humans more prone to atrociousness?

Bad television?

Their desire to want to meddle with what they shouldn't. What's the saying? To play god? And having the gumption to attempt it.

Television is fine. Movies are entertaining, usually. Humans have strange ideas about alien species.

People do like to feel like they're in control of all things. Maybe that's part of it.

Their guesses and strange ideas are part of the reason I was curious. If we have guesses and interpretations, why wouldn't it be the same reversed?

Humans from Earth don't have much variety to them. They all look the same.

How do you mean? Humans have many different ethnic groups, but it may not be noticeable in certain regions.

Or do you mean that you're accustomed to greater structural differences?

Yeah. I have seen a single reptile or goat person who wasn't an imPort.

[No sparkly princesses either, so that's a good thing.]

humans are very clever. this can be very good or very bad, depending on the human

good: art, music, automobiles, mobile phones

bad: reality television, mass murder

and before anyone starts im not saying humans invented all these things

they just (at least in my dimension) perfected them

Someone else has mentioned enjoying certain aspects of human entertainment.

I'm not overly familiar with reality television. I suppose it's not popular where I'm from just yet. Shall I count myself lucky?

That's quite a question. I suppose the cliched answer is 'imperfect'.

We've been to the moon, and we love to discover. Yet we keep getting ourselves caught up in the inconsequential.

It's difficult for people to see very far outside of themselves, I think. They see their own lives, but not the centuries stretching onward before them.

'Imperfect' may be kind, in some cases.

Unfortunately, thinking in the long-term seems to be difficult for many people. If we were better at that, I think we would avoid a lot of problems--war, pollution, the consequences of natural disaster.

On the other hand, living for a very long time can mean getting stuck in a bad way of thinking.

Humans are wonderful. They might not always seem that way, but it's easy to underestimate them, and all they are capable of despite their limitations.

High praise. You've certainly been the most optimistic thus far.

How'd be leave such a good impression?

By growing and improving. When I first worked with them, do you know what I honestly thought?

I thought that these humans were the most hopeless species I had ever encountered, and briefly questioned if I had made a mistake to rely on them.

But they proved me wrong. They were persistent with their efforts, and when things looked their worst, humans more than rose to the occasion.

I am not from Earth, but humans are still the prevailing species in the galaxy. You can find humans on almost any planet you visit.

How interesting. I wonder how that is.

Are you from the future, then?

[ralltiir]

Hard to say. We use a completely different calendar system. But before coming here, I had never heard of a planet called Earth, so as far as most of us can figure we're just from a separate galaxy entirely.
