003. - Book Club!

Alright, so I've suggested this a little to some friends of mine, but I'm thinking about throwing this out a bit wider.

I'm thinking about starting up a book club. Less in the style of book of the month and more organizing one or possibly more groups who can share books or even genres they love most with other people. People would still do the whole guiding discussion but not looking for high end critique so much as just talking about it.

We all need something to unwind and I don't doubt some of us are really fans of reading. I would think the arrangement might work best with members willing to buy their own books. I think for the first few meetings I'd be willing to cook either a simple meal or some finger foods to enjoy, but people could also volunteer to provide food or drinks.


Anyone interested in the idea?

Nope. Never done this before. Actually, for a change, I don't think I even knew someone who had.

Alright, that's a perfect reason. Does that mean you're sort of new here?

Newer? Arrived in August.

That means you saw that monster, right? I missed that, but I saw the news right after.

Which monster? There have been a lot of monsters around.

Kind of looked like the Blob? Only with a lot of eyes?

Sorry. I'm not really a suitable field hero against monsters. I'm more an anti-people imPort. I'd be terrible in a fight against non-humanoids.

Wait, you're a hero? Like a superhero?

Who isn't these days? I was more active back home than I am here, though. There is plenty of coverage here.

I know it seems common here, but it's still hard to get my head around. Superheroes aren't a thing at all where I'm from.

They don't seem to be a thing in a lot of worlds. My Earth? Overrun with them.

Is that a good thing or...?

That to me sounds... like it's not going so swell.

It's more like it's a complicated situation that has to do with the three species living on Earth and how they're affected by the ebb and flow of heroism, fear, and war.

Three. If you don't count aliens. Then things get more complicated and a lot harder to pin down.

Wait, your world has aliens living there?

Yeah. Plenty of them.

People aren't freaked out by that?

Of course they are. But it's something we've dealt with for a while. And not all of them are as violent as some Kree or Skrull can be.

Then... you've got aliens and other kinds of people living together in... relative peace? Am I hearing that right?
