Would it be dumb to try to get a car that's as close to the same make and model as my car back home, even if it's kinda old and crappy, just cause it's familiar? [and sentimental reasons but he's not getting into that here] Do other people do that? Should I be shooting for the gold standard of inexpensive but functional?

If I could find a Camaro I could afford on this crappy pay, I would buy one. I think you're entitled to want a copy of that Jeep. I would say get a newer model if you can though, just for the sake of mileage.

If you really liked the car, I don't see why it's weird. Get what you want. It's your car, yeah? Who cares what anyone else thinks?

Functional but inexpensive is brilliant. Easier to repair.

Sounds smart to me. I mean, I like expensive cars, but they're not necessary.

I think it's good to be happy. So if you can afford it, and the car makes you happy, then why not get it? Life can be hard. Anything that makes you smile, that's a good thing, here or at home. Right?

I don't think it's dumb. I guess the only thing I'd say is think about if it'll cost you a million dollars to buy or in repairs or something, but if it's just a little more it's probably worth it???

tbh it's up to you!

It doesn't sound dumb to me. More like nostalgic. It's okay to want a reminder of home as long as the car is safe and you like it.
